Found rotten wood

As I was installing a swim grid I found on one side of my transom rotten wood were my tie down hook is( wich was loose). I can access the wood from the inside to do the repair. The outside fiberglass of the transom is solid. Here is a pic from inside boat...any suggestions appreciate

My suggestion is to scope out the area and get going with cutting and gutting. Usually the bad stuff goes about 5 times further than what you initially think/hope.

Read through some of the restoration threads to get an idea of how folks have done it in the past. Each restoration is unique, but you will see the common approaches by reading through some threads of those who have gone before you.

A few pictures from further back will help with responses.

It's wet yes and also some dry rot...I will get more pics

Probably easier to work on with the engine out of the way....not gonna be a quick and simple job !

Right...I've become good at yanking that out lol so no biggie there

That is pretty similar to how I discovered rot in my transom, except it was my ladder bolts that were loose. I ended up replacing the transom, most of the deck and all of the flotation foam. Luckily, my stringers were made of fiberglass, so they did not need to be replaced. If you click the link in my signature, you can see what you might be in store for.
