Safest way to pay for items from private, out of state sellers ?

I'm not familiar with any type of escrow service. Paypal offers some protection if you use the 'goods and services' option, but that protection is mainly for buyers, so some sellers aren't too thrilled with it (in part, because they have to pay fees and any conflict resolution favors the...

    Boat weight

Personally, I cannot imagine putting the time or money into a 1970s boat with a long-obsolete and incomplete drive train. Rebuilding and maintaining an old boat is hard enough, without have to deal with a motor/outdrive from a company that's been out of business for 20+ years.

Installing New OEM Egg Crate Foam for Engine Hatch?

How hard would it be to remove the hatch and invert it, so you can lay the foam into the adhesive and then possibly weight it down so it adheres? I think trying to get it to stick to the hatch while it's on the boat will be a bit challenging...

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

There is this thread at THT: https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/369092-no-wood-manufacturer-list-compilation.html?ispreloading=1 I have not looked at it in years, but when I did, it was not very complete and I'm not sure it's 100% accurate. Might be worth a look...

    Mercruiser Sterndrive Transom Stress Crack

Mine had nothing like that, either. I think it's because manufacturers look for any possible place to cut costs.

Deep cycle battries and standard car battries

There are marine and non-marine starting batteries; either will work on a boat, but I believe the marine versions are built a bit more ruggedly to handle the pounding of waves, etc. I've heard mixed things about the use of deep cycle batteries as starting batteries, but generally it seems to be...

    Comparison of Boats for Sale

Not much information in either ad, so you're limited to the pictures which may have been taken recently or years ago. Both boats, as others have said, are likely to need a lot of work, so unless you know someone who is familiar with old boats and can look at them with you, I'd suggest you read...

    Thoughts on this boat?

We have the 9.9 hp version of that motor. Damn near indestructible. Do as @racerone suggests and you should be good to go.

    Thoughts on this boat?

Probably not a bad price for the motor alone.

    Who didn't winterize??

It was -9 with a -35 windchill when I went yo bed last night. It is so cold and windy here that the old boiler in out house can’t keep up… highest it can jold is about 65 degrees. Old houses are great until it gets really cold…

    The Boating Season That Wasn't

Sounds like a terrible headache of a summer. Exactly the sort of thing you should be able to avoid by buying new.

    Boat wiring question

Sounds like you need to trace some wires to see complete the circuit for battery A and which do it for battery B... Or you could put in a simple A/B switch and a common bus bar for the negative wires.

Re-post of Boomyal's Brined Turkey Recipe!

I've tried a number of brines for poultry and I really don't think anything beyond salt and water has much of an effect. None of the other ingredients (besides salt) can penetrate the meat, so they really just make the brine smell good and flavor the skin of the bird. I like wet brining...
