I’m looking for some input. I just sold my Jon boat that didn’t have a title because, let’s face it you are limited with what you can do with a boat without a title. Anyway now I’ve got a little pocket change, I’ve got the opportunity to pick up another boat. It’s a 15’ crestliner with 15hp Johnson and a trailer. Guy wants $350 for it as it sits. What do yall think? And this one has a title. Last ran about 3 years ago. He has new wood seats, they just have to be installed.B266D31B-0019-41A7-8823-4EBB5EBADFB8.jpeg457873B7-D427-4E77-BEA8-67E6A058A93F.jpeg9C7DBF6F-EE94-48FB-988D-763193CAA25D.jpeg7E1D6011-D3BD-4B02-8BC5-FFEB0FF0038F.jpeg32FD4D71-9878-4282-8044-26273BF393D2.jpegA582557C-36F4-4A1D-9E75-E49EEE2E9371.jpeg86A892BA-245F-4067-8115-BA8FA22DB542.jpegAF0F3B93-AA66-488B-88E6-00AC060BB9EA.jpeg226263FB-9490-43E4-A2FE-80A20978A6B1.jpegAF7DE6A0-AB87-4BE0-828A-179C000A7109.jpeg

I agree, not a bad price for the motor. The boats definitely gonna need some work. Should make a fine fishing boat eventually. It won't be breaking any speed records, but should get you to the fish.....eventually.

Well the goal is to have a small boat that is easy to maintain. Just something that I can take the kids out fishing if they wanna go.

Transom needs replacement. That's dry rot/wet rot/delamination.

Good news is its easily accessible. Use some ACX plywood, seal it, and go.

I should have clarified, what do you see on the transom that needs attention?

What he said.

based on the pictures you posted. the transom wood is water-logged and starting to rot.

a 12 pack, a sheet of ACX, some rustoleum, and 2 weekends

For $350 you have a solid project boat on which to work. Plan on spending more than $350 to get the motor running again, sandblast and paint the trailer, probably replace wheel bearings, replace the transom, and as you are working you will find other "projects" to make your boat special to you, like maybe a floor, or a small center console, or some rewired lighting to stay out after dark, or a casting deck, or ... you have a blank canvas with that boat. There are infinite endings to the project. Enjoy the journey!

Ok, that makes sense on the transom. Generally speaking, what would the motor need to be brought back to life? Considering everything was in good condition when parked that is.

What racerone stated is the best place to start, along with new spark plug (make sure the cylinder is lubed). You should have no problem IF everything was in good condition when parked. Unfortunately when dealing with people with boats that is a big IF.
