I bought a Taylor Made custom cover for my boat about 15 years ago & built a frame for it so it won’t cave in under snow loads. Worked out pretty well all these years….

Season #1 with the new-2-me boat is in the books. I did not get many of the planned 'modifications' done this year, so those things (TV, Microwave, etc.) will be on the list for next year.

Counting the days until the 2023 season starts. It's always a challenge to get the boat ready before June though

Guys - Why would I need a boat cover when I already have one?

Albeit it's a custom cover for a Grady 305, but it works ! My brother bought it - used it once - then sold the boat without the cover. I think it originally cost about $2500. I tried to sell it for him, but the best offer I got was $200 !

So, I decided to keep it. Pretty thick canvas . . . heavy . . . All bundled up, it takes 2 people to lift it.

Picture of this well fitting cover? A guy who knows how to sew is going to have an ill fitting boat cover? Sacrilege!

I am sure glad I NEVER have to do something like this! My boat now sits in a heated garage.

My pontoon boat cover I just made last year. Sunbrella. Previous one lasted around 8 years. It sits in a brutal environment otherwise they normally last longer.

It's the cost of property in NY....very few people here have inside storage for anything but a couple of cars...a house big enough to have that large of a garage, would likely have annual real estate taxes in excess of 20 grand. So you cover it outside, or sell everything and get the hell out.
On the other hand...this is my neighborhood......
I can moor any boat I want back there for about $300 a year membeship in a sheltered harbor/private beach association
It is safe from storms, and has easy access to Long Island Sound and all the harbors in western Suffolk County
and the boat ramp is a 1/4 mile from my house....
So there are plusses and minuses to everything...

As for the cover . . . although it was not meant for my boat, the price was right .

I may modify it at some point to provide a window for the solar panel on the soft top and to tighten the fit. Not even on my priority list though

You are right. This is where my boat lives during boating season...my backyard.

That's beautiful Bruce, is that freshwater as well?
We have a part of our neighborhood that is just the same, houses about 5-10 ft above sea level (mean high tide) with docks.... however, during Sandy...some of the people who lived at that elevation...wished they hadn't.....because when the storm rolled in...it was 4 hrs before high tide....this road....had 4 feet of water on it....4 hrs after I drove back from town buying the 2 last gas cans I could find....
The North Shore of Long Island had damage in all the low lying areas, but the South Shore was wiped out, nearly everything south of Montauk Highway was flooded, boats were everywhere, on major roads, LIRR tracks, people's back yards, etc. That day we were REALLY glad we were 65 feet above sea level!

I would love to have a boat dock right at my house, but our area just does not have that sort of setup. I think in our harbor, there are only a few fortunate houses by the water that have boat docks.

I do recall looking at a Formula 330CBR on Long Island that had the boat docked right in the back yard . . . but the house did not come with the boat

There are many neighborhoods here on Long Island like this both on the North Shore and on the South Shore. Interestingly if you visit Jones Beach Island or Fire Island many houses have been raised up as a result of Superstorm Sandy.
It’s a great boating area with many places to visit & if there’s a drought it really doesn’t affect water levels at all, tides are the same regardless. But you have to learn to deal with salt water and contrary to what some think you can make I/Os last in salt water. It just takes work….
