Making some progress. I have finished with the polyester fairing compound and started fairing with the Total Boat Total Fair. It is great to work with and it is supposed to be easy to sand, will see soon. Starting to think this hull might just look good with some paint on it!

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and a new owner of a 1973 Aristocraft 19. It is a total project

Welcome aboard to the madness, err, the joy of boat repair and restoration! Plenty of great project threads you can browse and plenty of knowledgeable people who are willing to share. Take plenty of pics and measurements when you start tearing it apart, it sounds like you will be doing a lot of...

1950's Wagemaker Wolverine wooden boat restoration ...

Hoping to swing by and see you and the WM, so glad the event is back. Maybe have mine there next year!

Hi all, newbie here sharing my fresh project

There are plenty of build threads here done by people with little or no fiberglass experience, myself included. I agree that with your background and willingness to learn you will pick it up quick. The worst part is the grinding of the old glass to get it ready for new glass, if the previous job...

Treatment for Black Mold in bottom of aluminum boat.

Something that works much better than bleach is Round Up. Use rubber gloves, follow directions and rinse, rinse and rinse, does a number on mold bleach can't do. I would do it outside also.

    Floor and transom repair.

As for your question about keeping the cap on while you do the floor and stringers and then do the transom later. You are correct in that the cap will definitely keep the hull stable and not go out of shape but you might not have a choice if the stringers and floor connect to the transom. Even...

Fiberglass Repair with big patches? Or fill with CSM and resin?

Definitely find out about the structural integrity of the inside of the boat first. It does look like the exterior is cosmetic from what I see. Not worth it to spend time and money on that and then find out you are pushing a soaked sponge around the waterways. Good luck and keep us posted.

Rehab SportCraft 222 1983 deep V hull cuddy walkaround

I think I need to also put my name in the longest build hat, as I say on most of my projects, at least the pay sucks! Buck.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part...

What I learned with my project and I think a lot of people on here will agree, the more rot the better. It is easier to tear it out. Good luck and yes take care of your eyes, stuff will be flying once you get power tools involved. Buck

Thanks guys, hoping there aren't any more big surprises, the blistering, crackling and hook in the bottom really set me back, fortunately I know how much time I spent on the inside of the boat so I wasn't going to take a sawzall to the whole boat like I had wanted to when I was grinding the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Hi Tod, I have been away for a while and needed to go back several pages to get caught up with your progress. Wow, just wow. Congrats on the splash and thanks for sharing such a great project with the rest of us!

I am really embarrassed that it has been almost 7 months since my last post. I have made some progress but unfortunately I had some back issues recently and even worse back issues just before Labor day which really put a damper on boat progress. Luckily nothing serious with the back, just...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Great job so far and thanks for sharing your journey and current misery. After the grinding if someone is being a jerk and tells you to go to hell you can say you have already been there and that is the biggest reason I will probably only restore one boat in my life, lol. Mine is such a small...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Great work on the trailer, looks great. You should have done a body outline in chalk on the driveway, with the red paint you could have had some stories to tell.

Thanks Reserector! I did not know that about the back edge. I will be doing some finish glass on the outside skin of the transom so it will be easy to get a sharp edge. I would have rounded it for sure.

    The Tin Mule Resto

Looks great Sam! What is it about getting older and having back problems? Hope it feels better and not worse in the next day or so. Can't wait to see any one of your boats next to mine on the water!

Hi everyone. I need to stop thinking things will go as planned. I was hoping to flip the boat a month ago and just got it flipped last week. I was having problems with the fairing compound not kicking off. It felt hard but would gum up the sandpaper, was very frustrating but with it so hot and...

    Remove Deck carpet to fiberglass

I used a cheap small belt sander from HF. I think it still sells around $35. Don't use HF belts, go on Amazon and get the good stuff. The adhesive was rock hard but comes off with the 36 grit belts.
