Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Welcome! I did it in smaller pieces and because CSM has a random layup of fibers to it you can go any direction. Be sure not to overlap too much, that will add thickness in one spot which will add more work in the fairing process. I initially used polyester fairing compound which I didn't like...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

It is a lot of work but I am in the process of fairing now after sanding the whole bottom of the hull and some of the sides. I added a layer of CSM to the whole hull, not 1708 because I heard you don't need the strength, the CSM stabilizes all the original glass and gel coat so the cracks don't...

1972 Starcraft Arrow closed bow conversion

That looks like a cool runabout you are going to alter, extensively. Just my opinion but why cut this one up and not just buy a bass boat? After doing a total cut and gut on my runabout that is also 14' and similar construction, I really don't think your hull will keep its shape under tow and...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

I forgot to add my .02 about pour foam. I agree with above posters, cut out the holes with a hole saw and pour it in. Mine was fun because I decided to do it when our Florida winter happened the weekend I was wanting to do the foam, needs to be 80f. Finally got the garage warm enough at 3am!

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

It is amazing the different structures are under the floors of all these boats. Yours has no side to side structure (bulkheads), mine had no fore to aft structure (stringers). I did add one more bulkhead to give it more strength and did 2# foam for more strength, there was NO foam in my boat...

Rehab SportCraft 222 1983 deep V hull cuddy walkaround

What you are saying is that while doing all that you can't be bothered to take pics for us? JK of course, always fun trying to do things upside down in a tight space!

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

Depends on which type of oak. White oak is good for marine use but red oak is probably one of the worst woods you could use, it soaks water like a sponge. No matter what wood you use it needs to be done correctly or you will be doing this again real soon. Take your time and do it once!

Hi KC! Thanks for the kind words on your last post. I had a busy few weeks away from the boat and had ran out of fairing compound. Got back on it today and should get some more work done on it the next few days, probably not Sunday though unless I want to sleep out with it, lol. I need to get...

1966 Dorsett San Juan 19' Full Restoration

Although my boat is quite a bit smaller than yours I went ahead and pulled the cap off mine, glad I did. It was so much easier working on the sides of the hull. That is going to look so great when you finish, be patient and do it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest. Good luck and look...

How would you do this transom?

If your rub rail rubber insert can not be saved, take a razor down the middle of it first and cut it in half, comes out real easy. Mine was as hard as a rock from baking in the Florida sun for decades, I tried to pull it out and it wasn't budging, split it and a few minutes later it was gone...

Getting close to paint! Portside bottom and front on both sides almost there. The hook is gone, woo-hoo. I did fix most of the hook with resin, CSM and 1708, a lot more time using fairing compound to get it super flat though, hoping for a smooth ride.

Well since I never was a metal drummer I was not ready for this! Also having a dust mask on I get winded even quicker, maybe it has more to do with my age though. An hour here, 2 hours there...slowly getting there.

So. Much. Sanding. The TotalBoat Total Fair is great to work with, easy to move and sands really well. The darker green spots are the low spots, not anything deep, just need to keep applying compound and keep sanding. I bought a rattle can of guide coat, can't wait til I am ready to use that.

Hi all, newbie here sharing my fresh project

Where are you in Central Florida? I am in Lake Mary, hope to meet you in person with both our boats on the water someday! I did my grinding outside under an enclosed tent in July, it was brutal! A few things that helped is I used heavier 7mm Harbor Freight rubber gloves, put them on first, take...

    Procraft 1900 bass boat restoration

Amount of time needed is relative to how many curve balls get thrown at you in the process, I have had several. I would definitely say take your time and do it right. I have read it a few times on here and it is a good thing to remember, it isn't like a car that you can pull off to the side of...

1991 Wellcraft 197 Eclipse Restoration questions

I suggest you skip the PL and just use PB. You won't have to wait for the PL to cure and having it all be the same bond and having the fibers will tie it all together. Just my .02.

1991 Wellcraft 197 Eclipse Restoration questions

You want to get the wood up off the hull so when you add the PB you have the filets on both sides and PB under the plywood as all one continuous wide support instead of the small contact point of the plywood to the hull which could cause a stress crack or worse when hitting a hard wave. Others...

Thanks Sam, getting there slowly, ran out of fairing compound today. Not sure which day yet for the Dora show, daughter might have a function in St Augustine on Sat, I do think I have Fri free so I should be able to spend most of Fri or Sat there. I will text you to let you know, looking forward...
