97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

ok, im gonna give my pragmatic 2 cents here. Kevin sucks.... that much we already know. whether I would grind out all the extra spooge or not really depends on if the mess restricts me getting in the new wood, and getting it glassed in PROPERLY. If its in an area that is not affected by the...

procedure to manually flush non-running 4.3 engine?

without knowing exactly what setup you have, what I would do is get to the main water inlet from the transom and hook a hose up to it directly (if needed cut the hose and put a "hose repair fitting" on the end to connect easily, just replace the hose when you recommission the engine) and flush...

    What is this? PLEASE

granted, its on a V-6, I wouldnt want to try and fight putting one in "properly" on a boat either.... enough of a PITA in a vehicle with some actual clearance...... with a boat, its damn near engine out type work

    What is this? PLEASE

yep, first thing that pops into my head is an expandable rubber freeze plug..... without pics its impossible to know, and with pics, it would be impossible to ignore......

    Tow rope to Talon bracket?

that will work to protect the rope. When it gets chewed up, replace it with a new piece. For as much tubing as you say you are doing, that is what I would be doing....

    Tow rope to Talon bracket?

the transom tie down points are among the strongest points on the boat. If it were me, I would go with the cheap rope bridle between the two points, and have some chafing gear (some form of replaceable cover to protect the rope) on the bridle where it passes by the bracket and monitor for wear...

Where can I find the oil filter?

if you can push it in to the end, and turn it with two fingers, you should be good. Removing it you are working against the suction from the grease. this is normal.

    Water in Bellows

and next time you have the drive off, a straightedge check may be in order.

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

agreed, but with the age of the boat, I wouldnt rule it out freshwater either. Mine is older than yours, but still had the riser rot out that I had to replace. Not a lot of salt water here in AZ..... The Chevy head cracking issue is relatively common on automotive usages, so is an easy thing to...

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

check the heads real good. Chevys like to crack the heads around the exhaust valve, especially in the center two cylinders.

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

not uncommon for the piston to be "steam cleaned" when there is water in the cylinder. That is likely the root source of your failure. While we dont know yet where the water came in, it was certainly in #5. Had the other cylinder gotten enough water in it when running, it would be squeaky clean...

    Trim gage not working

chances are, that the senders have fully packed it in on you. Thankfully they arent that hard to change on the Merc outdrives, but its a job best done when you are doing the bellows. the through hull fitting is above the u-joint bellows and can be a bit of a bugger.....

Mercuiser 357 mag low compression on #6 (120 psi)

And that’s 14.696 AT SEA LEVEL…. Not all of us live at sea level, so those numbers would be “high” for many folks that are inland and operate on lakes. My elevation is 3500 feet for example (pressure drops about 1inch of mercury per 1000 feet according to my search) sea level is at 29.92 inHg...

    Out on the Lake Pictures

Yep, no “ring around the lake” this year!!!! That appears to be Schoolhouse where mine are at. The courtesy dock is about up to the top of the cables this year, rather than way down. According to the lake report, we have about 40’ of water at the end of the ramp at the moment

    Out on the Lake Pictures

Yes, last year this time the lake was about 70-75% full, this year it’s right at about 99% and monsoon season is starting soon. We had a wet winter that really filled up a lot of the reservoirs

    letting in water around motor

this would be my first guess as well. bellows need attention, and before it gets any worse..... if you have a leak now, you are a bilge pump failure away from a VERY bad day

    Mercrusier MC 1 outdrive

my boat is same vintage as OP, with the Merc 120 setup. As soon as I find a donor boat close by with the same/similar setup, Im gonna snag it up for spares..... things arent getting any easier to find, shipping isnt getting any faster, and a "simple" failure on this old equipment can be season...

Where can I find the oil filter?

i cant help but think we are being trolled here. Knows enough to suck the oil out, but cannot find the oil filter on one of the most popular types of I/O out there. When given instructions on where it is, attempts to remove the exhaust manifold to access the filter..... last post cinches it...

Where can I find the oil filter?

if it were mine, and the filter were hidden like that, I would be installing a remote filter mount..... Cry once installing it, and never again.....
