Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Looking good!! One thing to keep in mind, if you tested water leaks prior to removing the paint, you might want to test again since you plan to leave it bare. The paint may have helped "seal" some of the rivets. Might be a worry wort, but something to ponder. SHSU

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

It was my understanding it was supposed to seep in between the cracks and seams. I applied mine in Texas heat so it might have been runnier then normal. SHSU

So were you able to use the truck to pull the trailer under or did you have to winch it in like you originally planned? SHSU

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I have a Seloc and it hasn't been bad. If I were to do again, I would try and get an original. I keep hearing about extra information in them that the Seloc isn't to clear on. Then again, I don't know what is in the originals either.... SHSU

Cracking? Any idea where its coming from specifically? I didn't hear or see any cracking on mine when I laid the Gluvit. I wouldn't' expect anywhere you put Gluvit to flex enough from walking to fail. SHSU SHSU

Took me a second to figure out why you would need to winch it back under. You got a riding lawn mower or a tractor? SHSU

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

I know some have drilled holes in the wood transom where the buck tails came through to give the space needed for a flush fit. Don't need much of a hole, just time to figure out where each holes needs to be drilled. SHSU

@classiccat is the resident expert when it comes to corrosion. For me I just used an angle grinder with a wire wheel and vinegar. SHSU

That engine hoist is a back saver. I can't imagine doing our project without it. Used more often then thought. SHSU

Be careful with that transom cap. Almost impossible to find if you damage it and need to replace. I wasn't, but thankfully I was planning on a custom splashwell that would need a new cap anyways. SHSU

That makes more sense. I imagined an external tube being bolted on. Looks good though and wont decompose over time. SHSU

I like the idea of the L bracket, but I don't believe it transfers much to your knee brace if you raise the transom height. So the force associated with the motor wont be transferred appropriately. That is just my simple mind, not an engineer here. I had a custom splashwell made for mine and...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Easy to flip and very light when you have everything out. When I flipped ours, I was concerned about its strength as well. I fixed that by putting a couple 2x4 clamped to the gunnels across the hull. No issues after that. I believe I have read where flat bottom boats up in Oregon and such do...

Another option people have done is use some gluvit on the exterior side of the rivet. It would seep into any areas that water would as well and should help with sealing as well. That being said, the hull would need to be turtled to be effective. SHSU

I like the idea of raising the transom height. Any thoughts to if you will need to raise the knee brace height as well? SHSU

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I left the sealant at the keel since it had sealed so well and just poured what little gluvit I had left on top of it. For the ribs, I think its mixed but general consensus is gluvit wont be able to seal at the rivet in-between the joints. That being said, plenty still do it as it makes them...
