    Compression Test??

When doing a compression test on a 1977 70hp Evinrude, do I need to ground out the plugs? ....or can I just leave them hanging? If I need to ground them what is the best way to do this? Also, besides 10% of each other, any idea of what factory compression is? Thanks

    70's Evinrude 70HP outboard

This is my sister's boat and it's sat for about 5 yrs in their garage. They pulled it out yesterday and we ran a decarb on it. It was still smoking after the 3rd time, should I keep going until the smoke is gone? Also, I want to run a compression test on this boat, but it's been a few years...

    Jack Plate Install/motor hoist question

I am being given a jack plate for my 1986 Ranger 373v with Evinrude XP150 sitting on the back. My question is how hard are these to install? The guy giving it to me said he was charged approx $100 by a Boat shop about 45miles away to install it on his boat back when he got it. I just called a...

Metal flake touchup on bass boat?

I have an '86 Ranger Fish/Ski, which of course has the metal flake. There are several areas on the hull, where it has scrapes that go beyond the metal flake and I'd like to touch it up. Ranger still stocks the gel coat in the colors I need, so getting the exact match - minus fading over the...

    Jackplate on 373v

I have someone giving me a jack plate for my boat. It's a 1986 373v with an Evinrude XP150 on the back. A couple of questions: 1) How will this affect pulling a tube or a skier? Will it make it easier or harder? I have young kids, so I use this boat for pleasure probably more than fishing...

    Trolling motor for Ranger 373v

I have a 1986 Ranger 373v and after spending the week fishing in the wind at Table Rock Lake, I have decided my stock 12/24v Motor-guide trolling motor isn't strong enough to keep me off the rocks in a strong wind. So, I've decided I need to start looking for an updated model. Any suggestions...

    Everstarts Maxx or Interstate

Let me start by saying I have two Everstart Maxx batteries and have been more than happy with them. One is 7ish years old another, is just over 7 years old and I have to replace it. I went to Walmart today to buy another Everstart Maxx C29 battery, it was priced at $75, I paid for it, then...

    Newbe Fishing Tournament ??

Let me start by saying I have never entered one of these, was basically asked because I have the boat for it. With that said, one question is, what is a good livewell conditioner to get? I have a Gander Mountain close by and of course Walmarts. So if there is something good I can get from...

    3 bank charger mounting

I bought a ProMariner ProSport 20, 3 bank 20amp charger today. I'm trying to figure out where to mount this in my Ranger 373v. To me the likely space is in the battery compartment/bilge area. The problem is the manual states, "Select a mounting location that allows for free air ventilation...

    New cover

I still have the original cover for my 373v, but it has definately seen better days. In the 4yrs I've owned the boat, I've managed to somewhat keep it together, but not sure it'll last another season. Last year I contacted Ranger and they told me they would make me a brand new factory cover...

    pedestal seat???

I have a 1986 373v and am in the process of replacing the plywood for the pedestal seats as they are all wearing out. In any case, I have noticed that about 3" in front of each mounting bracket, on the bottom, is 3 bolt holes in a triangular pattern. These are on both sides, but nothing is...

    When to replace troller battery?

I know this sounds kind of obvious, but I have two batteries dedicated for my trolling motor. Not thinking my charger was working, I took one of the batteries in to get it tested and it came back as Good and fully charged. Plan to take the other in for a test as soon as I find the time, just...

    Time to replace batteries

I have 3 batteries, 1 is for the accessories and cranking the engine, the other two are for my trolling motor. The trolling batteries are about 6-7yrs old and don't seem to be holding a charge, so pending a test, they are most likely being replaced in the next month or so. Is there anything...

    inverter???

I am curious, are there any real differences between a marine 12v-110v inverter and one you might use in your car? .....besides probably having marine grade wiring! I am guessing the marine ones are GFCI protected and the others aren't but I really don't know. Not many times I really...

    Battery Shut Off

My 1986 Ranger 373V has 2 sets of 2 push button switches that disconnect the batteries. 1 set turns off the accessories, such as the radio with one button and the boats ignition with the other button. The 2nd set turns off one of my two trolling motor batteries with one switch and the 2nd...

    determining which prop to buy

I currently have a 3 blade prop on my 17' Ranger 373 with an E-150XP motor. The boat seems to get up and go pretty well, but when I put a skier or tube behind it, it seems to lag just a bit. Would changing to a 4-blade prop help and how do I decide what I need to go with? I know you...

    vhf antenna

I recently purchased a VHF Marine Band Radio and I am getting ready to install it in my boat. My problem is that I don't want some huge 8' antenna sticking up as I am only using this on smaller (5-10 miles across) lakes and I have a 17' Ranger Fish/Ski boat. It seems that all I can find...
