1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

And lastly. we got the exhaust port area cleaned up and drilled the new holes for the new shiny exhaust ports. I also filled the area around the ports with some thickened resin since there was a little bit of rot around this area. Luckily this wont be taking any load. When I mount the ports...

And the admiral and her mom tackled the engine cover. Looks very clean and sharp. I'm impressed.

During the process of aligning the engine we also got the decals off the boat. ready for cutting, buffing, and waxing and polishing once the cap is back on.

Last few items. We sanded down the old swim platform which someone had put some sort of a lacquer on. We bought a 3 stage teak oil treatment that I think looks much nicer. There is also a piece of wood that acts as an exhaust port cover on the engine cover that we sanded and stained to match.

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

After all that excitement it was time to mark the engine mounts, drill holes into the angle iron and stringers, and then attach everything with resin. I started by tightening down all my adjustment points on the mounts so that when I picked the engine back up and set it back down it would be...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Next up, with the engine back in the boat was time to align the engine to the drive shaft. This I was a little nervous about since all the mounts were pretty old, so last week (maybe 2 weeks ago  :blue:) I took them apart and cleaned up the oxidization and got all the adjustments working...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Next up is getting the engine back into the boat to continue on the mounting process. I started by wheeling the dolley with the engine mounted to it under the hoist. Using the strap puller over this amount of distance I wish I had purchased a chain hoist. My thought was that I would use the...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

I found this replacement cable on iBoats store, same cable, and $40 less than what I've found elsewhere. I think this is what Ill be leaning towards...

Inboard 351 Windsor - Help on distributor & wiring

Hey all, I have an old 1987 Ski Centurion with an inboard DD 351W in it. Before I purchased the boat, it had sat for upwards of 5+ years, although the engine seems to be in decent shape since the engine cover stayed together. I currently have a rebuild thread where I had it gutted to the hull...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Well, if what I know about this engine is true... we had someone who wasnt 100% accurate. Makes me a little nervous. current firing order is 1,7,3,2,6,5,4,8 I swapped the 7 and 3 to have at least the correct sequence.

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

I agree with you on the feeling like they could let water in. But looking at the mounting locations, there isnt much of an issue. My cap sits over the hull and I would be mounting them to the top portion. I created a mini sketch of what I plan. The Red is my Hull, Blue is the cap, Yellow is the...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

I was trying to remember what the cleats looked like in the boat, and couldnt remember any that stuck up. So I pulled up some old pictures from when we brought it home and there arent any rear cleats, only one spot for pole lights. on the rear starboard side. and two cleats in the front. Looks...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Look guys! I did something on the boat! Got the back of the stringers glassed in and I think it turned out pretty good. The corners were very difficult but by planning ahead and cutting the CSM and cloth to fit I was able to get everything into place.

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

And I got out and made a little progress on the boat tonight got the gas tank risers cut and glassed into place. I also filled in the stringers in the rear and set up a nice fillet to glass over. I also got the engine mounted to my little dolly and started to put some of the components...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Oh man! 35?!?! You're going to have a floating tank  I wasted a bit when I was practicing the glassing, practicing PB, messed up a few batches of PB, plus all the extra that I will toss after it starts to gel up on me. So far my extra gel resin has only been a coffee can, filled 3/4 now...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Here are old pictures of what the drainage looked like originally. Im just not a huge fan of having water flowing through the stringers. Or it having access to the foam on the outer sections.

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

With all the fun skiing talk out of the way... Time to share my most recent update! Super excited to have finally started glassing the stringers! I spent ~1hr of prep (cleaning the boat, cutting glass, measuring where I wanted to do my joints, etc.), and then put the mask on and spent about 5...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Hey mr300z87 ! Glad to have you following along! Its a really fun looking boat, and a 351W is a great reliable engine with plenty of power to do everything we need! I cant wait until we get it out on the water. But there is still a lot of work to do to get us to that point. I was luckily to...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

We are really ready to start making moves now! Painted the other sides of the steel pieces and got all the fillets on the stringers smoothed out. It took 72oz of resin plus chopped fibers and cabosil (resothix is what they have) PER STRINGER! Way more than I thought, I was expecting one batch...

1987 Ski Centurion Tru Trac II - First Time Rebuild - Floor, Engine, Dash, etc.

Hey all! I made it to the fiberglass store and got some more cabosil, chopped fibers, and 5 gallons of resin and hardener. Can't wait to get back on the game. I think I'm going to mix up some PB tonight and fix the fillets that I didn't have enough to fully form. I also finished cleaning up...
