Impeller change level of difficulty Q

even with a rock hard/set the impeller will still pump just fine at idle so unless someone ran it dry i highly doubt they are burned or missing

Impeller change level of difficulty Q

who cares what the indicator is doing! whats the temp at idle at the flat spot top of the head?? does it burble out water from the exhaust relief grommet once it warms up and the t stat opens? those are very tough impellers. one common thing is the grommet at the top of the water tube gets...

    2000 70hp johnson.

yep as chris said its automatic . it will say in advanced timing about 10 degrees or so until the temp sender hits around 96f. then it shuts off. it will also activate for 3-5 seconds on every startup when warm. plain as day if you have it or not. you would destroy your gearcase in short order...

1987 40hp evinrude vro (oil deleted) carb issue?

as mentioned make sure the tiny idle pickup tube is 100% clear and alcohol or carb cleaner sprays out the tiny little idle calibration holes on the rearward "roof" of the carb just behind the throttle butterfly's. will need to hold them open to check while spraying. once together, manually blow...

1990 Evinrude 150 XP Loss of Electrical Power Help??!!

the way to stop guessing and throwing $ away is to get an el-cheapo DVA adapter for your meter, coil extenders, and a stevens power pack load adapter but thats optional as the pack can be isolated as the issue by testing primary voltage w. terminal extenders, charge coil, and of course the...

    2000 70hp johnson.

the white wire is for the quickstart (auto-advance at startup like a car) so you arent fiddling with the throttle and causing piston damage by revving it to the moon like so many operators did and still do. you do not ground the temp sender wire! you ground the tan wire that plugs into the temp...

Need your opinion about replacing the original Reed Valves in my 1986 Evinrude 30 hp.

is it getting to full power? id think you'd get some fuel on your hand at higher RPM but if its wet that don't sound right to me :) those stock metal reeds can be open almost .015-.020'' and still function ok! common myth that any light seen through them when held up to a flashlight means they...

you bet. only if its idling under 125f though would that potentially indicate an overcooling issue

    1980 E100 motor issues

good grief that sounds awful! definitely only running on 2 cyl. will be in for a surprise when you get it out on the water. squirt fuel manually in each carb throat. if it just dies, its a spark issue. did you do a compression test 1st?

Need your opinion about replacing the original Reed Valves in my 1986 Evinrude 30 hp.

a common issue is the t stat seat in the head gets all oxidized and wont let the t stat seal properly in said seat. only real remedy is to get a new used head for $50 on ebay so it fully warms up.

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

ive seen those knockoff primers on Amazon and the reviews are horrible! glad i never actually bothered to test one out. go on ebay and get a crappy used one and rebuild with an OEM kit. they are damn near indestructible accept if moisture gets in them... and they usually still work!

    I think I killed my TE60TLENE

almost sounds like they didn't align the rod cap correctly but could be bearing alignment. sometimes a bad gearcase will play tricks with you . always worth dropping it but agree does sound like the powerhead. alot of those rebuilders say things like "replace pistons as needed"... meaning they...

    1980 E100 motor issues

the timer base doesn't sit all the way back on these to the stator post. simply hit it with a light with the cam roller in the center of the throttle cam mark. what does it say? should be 4-6 or so BTDC. these you need to be paying attention to any timing adjustments and understand how WOT...

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

an often simple but overlooked part of the carb is the tiny IDLE PICKUP TUBE! if its clogged, it cannot pick up enough or any fuel to keep the cylinder firing at idle. why its not hitting even if you squirt premix directly into the carb makes no sense, but does if its not a carb issue. your...
