The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Re: First attempt at boat repair
they are +/- 3 foot long, and about 7 1/2 inches high on the 4 layer
double layer (might use half inch, havent decided for sure) are about 7 feet long, and same 7 1/2 high
this is what I am rebuilding
tried to scrub the bilge out, got some oil residue on the...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
I was thinking building my rear stringers like this, and the front stringers will be 2 ply instead of 4. Just wondering if I should use the poly resin to treat each layer before gluing them together, or glue them, and pre soak it before placing on the hull to...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
I also kept up on varnishing. Another coat on the wheel, and seat trim, and I started varnish on the Ski Locker lid. I disassembled the entire lid, varnish on all sides, then I will put it back together, I figure 8-10 coats on each piece, scuff with 220...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
got a bit more work done today. Doesnt look like much, but I finished off the stringers, and got ready to grind. Curosity got the better of me and I cut out the front bulkhead. Had to stop working, with all the water that ran out of the bow. front floor...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
got about an hour in the garage to myself today, and guess what I found in the valley, lining the ski locker
Look Familair Trooper? the stench coming off all that rotten balsa was able to overpower the smell of fresh cut glass.
I trimmed some more of the...
Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy
I have a garage to work in, but it is not heated, and I am rarely home to work on it.
This is the weather chart for where I live. Red is record High, yellow average high, LT blue average low, and the dark on the bottom, record low.
I think I need a heater...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
and a couple of the mystery channel which was FULL of water. when I cut into it, I thought the boat was sinking, Literally.
I am really starting to get confident that may is possible.
Re: First attempt at boat repair

That is the port aft stringer, it all came out in 1 piece just had to slit the fiber

Re: First attempt at boat repair
one more pic of the stringers along the sides of the ski locker. I cant believe it was glassed like this. I have never built a boat before and even I know better.
and to fill the time while my recip is recharging, I am still varnishing teak. I LOVE the way...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
got a go at stringer removal, and as much as I hate rot, I am starting to love it. the entire rear stringer from bulkhead to stern came out in 1 piece with a gentle pry. sanding will be a minimum, and it left the perfect place to set the stringers and get them...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Then came the bulkhead at the back of the ski locker. The drain was glassed over (shoddy chop gun work from the looks of it.)
And the stern stringers were made from 2 2x6 dimensional lumber. do I need to do them this way or would say 2 layers 3/4 ply work...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Busy day today. Got the steering and dash removed, along with the throttle assembly, and found the dash on the starboard console was hacked to bits, and needs to be replaced and re glassed.
Then came the beginnings of the demo. Stringers were shot suprise...

Re: First attempt at boat repair
these are the only shots I have. The Hub does not have a set screw or anything. It took a 24 OZ hammer and did not budge a but, but the Nylok I put on to protect the threads was obliterated
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Unfortunately the orders from on high have come down, and the family budget just does not have the room to accomodate plywood for a few weeks. Christmas for the kiddos (I have 4 11, 9, 7 and 5) and my annual trip to Chicago are eating my boat funds. I could...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Any tips on how to remove the steering? I am having issues getting the steering out of the console so I can get the entire panel off. Got a guy ready to waterjet the dash panel out of Aluminum, and Rinoliner finish for both sides.
Re: First attempt at boat repair
And the last of the pics I have right now. More and more rot, and the Ice Chipper. A defiante must have for anyone trying this
And a tip for Cutting. When I am cutting away from a guide, i use Locators paint. It is cheap spray paint, designed to be sprayed...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Just a few things I have noted along the way. Outdrive seems to have water in the boot. Dont know if this is noremal or not.
Re: First attempt at boat repair
and the PPE/workspace 6000 series respirators (i have 3 from rail work) tyvek suit, pads and assorted tools. also using a modified welding hood for a grinding shield, and if I can find the rest of the parts, I do have a forced air respirator for all that glass...
Re: First attempt at boat repair
Sorry for the lag, but here are the photos I promised
it looks like the floor section under the bow seats was just chopped in, and not tabbed. looks like a decap is not a possibility any more, i will have to do it.
pulled trim pump and drained it. oil looks...
