    Gee, can you put the straight edge on the spindle? I would expect it to be bent down, no? I suppose it could be a loose bearing and/or low tire pressure and a lot of left turns. It is probably easier to replace the axle.

    Have you checked the exhaust manifolds for water leaks into the exhaust passages? Also check the manifold to riser joint for leaks past the gasket.

    That looks to be the water cooled voltage regulator. I bought one from CDI or Sierra, and it rusted out in a couple of years use in salt water. Unless the OEM version is prohibitively expensive, I would recommend OEM.

    Gee, that should work. You might test the diode with an ohmmeter, to make sure it is still good. If not, Amazon likely has a 15 to 25A generic full wave rectifier that will replace it for small $$. It makes no sense to buy an inferior OEM rectifier for large $$.

    Gee, what does the manual specify for initial low speed setting? For my '98 Johnny 150HPV6 the initial setting is 5 turns open. The 80HP motor of that vintage wants 4-1/2 turns open.

    You might check that max spark advance spec. Carb motors w/o timing advance modules want 21* or 20* max spark advance. I would recommend a Merc service manual, rather than deriving a timing set procedure on your own.

    You can use a caliper or even a steel ruler to set the timing pointer to TDC. I would expect the timing procedure to be the same as any generic Merc V6. Generally you will want 0-9*ATDC for idle pickup timing and 21*BTDC for max spark advance.
