    What do you mean by ring gear? I'm not keen on paying for a manual. Esp a digital one. I got too many toys for that. I've found a free manual for just about every one of them. Surely somebody has scanned and put up a copy somewhere haven't they?

    Has to be 25 HP? Found a short piece of what looks like black fuel line wedging the rope tight against the pulley. Wouldn't budge. Was torn and frayed so I pried it out and now the recoil works again. Going to need a starter for this brute though. It's mighty tough to pull over. Puzzled over...

    I like that too! Wish I knew which year and size motors are potential donors. This motor could well be out of tune too. The guy who owned it, like the guy before him I don't think had a clue.

    Good to know, but why bother when you can get most anything on ebay? Not a big fan of that site these days, but they have several of these parts. I'd just rather pay a little less if possible. Be cool to know what motors have the same part. Are 18s and 25s the same family?

    I hear you. Looking for something in the 15-35 HP range from the 50s for the Mirrocraft. Most of the oldies I'm seeing are way to small for a decent sized boat.

    Thanks Jimmbo. Good eye you got. It is indeed a '77. Trailer disappeared real quick. Sold it to a guy who wanted to haul a big canoe around. Maybe I sold it too cheap, but I did recoup most of what I paid for the trailer and motor, so can't complain.

    Just picked up a 77 Rude 25. Model 25702S Looks like a runner to me, but am I wrong or shouldn't it have some kind of air breather on the carb? Is it OK to run it this way? Think I see a CDI box on this so no points right? Those coils look fairly new too I'm thinking.

    Hate to admit it, but my pump came in a pretty nice little ziploc bag. Didn't think much about it at the time, but it'll work fine for storage I reckon. I like the shop towels idea though. Think I'll do that too.
