    2001 johnson 35 hp 3 cylinder

I pulled the thermostat assembly apart. Found this loose pin. See pic. I put the brass thermostat in my vice and applied heat to the button end and observed no movement. The nipple coming out of the thermostat is like black in color and flexible . I don't see how the tip that is loose connects...

    2001 johnson 35 hp 3 cylinder

Thank you. I removed the thermostat assembly but haven't checked flow yet with it out. I'll report back later in the week. Finally got above freezing in nj so I was able to spend a little time on it today

    2001 johnson 35 hp 3 cylinder

So bought this motor last week. Former owner said last time out the overheat alarm sounded. He shut it off promptly and put her on the trailer. Water pump is pumping water from the telltale fine. I checked compression 120 psi even all 3 cylinders. I started it up on my stand and after running...

Yamaha 50 hp 2 stroke prop seal depth

Ok I do see 2 lines on the shaft where the seals were but not deep at all. Can't feel them with your fingernail. Maybe I'll set them deeper so it's on a fresh part of the shaft. Thanks

Yamaha 50 hp 2 stroke prop seal depth

Replacing the prop seals on my 2006 3 cylinder 50 hp. Currently the outermost seal is 4.5 mm recessed from the outer edge of the housing. Should I repeat that or install deeper? I'm aware there are 2 seals there. Should I push the 1st seal all the way down and then the 2nd seal all the way down...

Yes it is good to go. Ultrasonic cleaned carb got rid of bog. Oil issue gone. I think former owner stored it on the wrong side. Thanks for everyone's help

    Evinrude 9.9 carb question

You are correct sir. Just strange to me why the same cover could use 2 different needles. Looks like one of them would be too short to allow the mixture knob to connect?

    Evinrude 9.9 carb question

    Evinrude 9.9 carb question

Yes a new #21 is installed. I need to take a look at the cover I used. Maybe there is no way for air to enter the top of the carb?

    Evinrude 9.9 carb question

Working on a 1988 evinrude 9.9. Plastic top carb. Original top was cracked. I installed one that looks just like the updated kit which uses a plastic nipple in which to slide the throttle roller onto. I transferred the needle valve from old to new (this version uses a front mounted mixture...

    Honda 9.9 burning oil

Is this similar to a car where I can pressurize the cylinder through the spark plug hole then change seals? No need to pull cylinder head right?

    Honda 9.9 burning oil

Thanks. Know of any good write up about how to do the valve seals? Why the thermostat test?

    Honda 9.9 burning oil

Why don't you think it's burning oil? What about the fresh oil I'm finding in the breather hose and airbox screen?

    Honda 9.9 burning oil

New to me 2008 9.9 Can't get it to accelerate without big bog that will kill the motor if not turning back throttle to idle. If you turn throttle slowly it will rev up but blowing smoke out exhaust. I cleaned carb thoroughly. Found engine oil in airbox on that screen looking part. Pulled spark...
