Don't let the "Overpower Police" here worry ya. LOL

I'd love a 90hp on my SS. I'm always searching CL for a post 1984 85/90hp motor. My '77 75hp pushes me along nicely, but a newer 85-90hp would be perfect IMO.

I'd save my money. You've got nearly the ideal motor for a 16' SC already. Wait till you see what the TnT and the setback do for ya. Only thing much better for you would be one of those 3 cylinder 90HP Yamaha's.

I have an 1989 90 Johnson on my 16 Jup.... sits flat, planes flat, runs great. No issues there at all.

This is a 1990 Johnson 4cyl. with controls and power trim......looks brand new, very well kept. I am going to try for a partial trade for my 50 hp Johnson.....we shall see even if there is no trade I will still probably do it. This is not a file photo, this is the actual motor.

Looks to be in terrific shape... as usual, look at the condition of everything including the coils for cracking and find out of the water pump has been changed recently/regularly. Preferably this century!

That's a hella nice motor. Being prop-rated 90, it'll make your boat flatout fly.

Well had a job postpone on me so of course I whined and cried and........ worked on the boat:D I got the trailer stripped down and in primer and looks like I may shoot it this weekend. Picked paint colors last night so I will pick up paint in the morning. So here it is Bottom polished to the water line rib, then Viper red up to top edge, then Charcoal mist on the top and inside.........So the trailer is going red.

That color sequence is going to be sharp! EZ planted the idea in my head for a polished bottom...seriously considering it for my own resto.

Re: You Guys Inspired Me!!!!

Thought I was ready to paint the trailer but during some "stare" time I decided I did not like the way the axle assembly mounted to the trailer frame. They mounted the axle assembly to a piece of 1/4 2x2 angle so that they could use it on different trailers I guess or possibly move the wheels forward or back. Whatever the reason, it's not a bad idea, it's just a bad spot for water to set where the two pieces mate together. So I took it apart and cleaned it up and primed it, then sprayed a couple coats of undercoater before remounting the axle. Now I am ready to paint. So this weekend should be it.

Re: You Guys Inspired Me!!!!

that actually looks like a pretty standard drop axle....to get the trlr frame lower relative to the centerline of wheels

Re: You Guys Inspired Me!!!!

Hey CP trailer work is fun right. +1 on the trailer color too. My trailer construction was about identical to yours and I tore it apart for the same reason. Had a lot of rust bubbling under the old paint in that area and around the area where the fenders were welded to the undercarriage. One even fell off during the teardown stage. Good luck on your polishing the bottom, I will be following that. Nice color scheme also. Did you get the 90? Hope the weekend is productive for you.

You have the magic touch with the trailer & 1990 Johnson finds. If you're concerned about the minor over-power and what the law thinks about it, you can have a new capacity plate made with any information you want on it. Many here have done it.

Great progress and pics so far. Ain't it hard when work interferes with your fun?

Re: You Guys Inspired Me!!!!

Quick update,,,,,,I found a really good deal on paint online and ordered it........it said it came as a kit but when I received it, it was only the paint. So not wanting to mix different products I had to order the hardener which won't be in until Tuesday. So next weekend the trailer will be painted for sure. I decided instead of pouting about it I will just change gears and work on the boat, so tomorrow I will pull my transom out and get her ready to turtle.........Lesson learned on some of my good deals :)

cp I know just how those little setbacks are, and frustrating. i always try to have a Plan B everytime I go out to the boat. But there is so much to do its hard to decide exactly which one will be the Plan B that day. Have fun with the transom.

Re: You Guys Inspired Me!!!!

Well boys, it was a productive day. Pulled the transom and it didn't look to bad but was soft in some spots it did have a really bad bow in it though. Being 1 1/2" thick I am assuming people are laminating 2 pieces of 3/4" together to make the new transom???? Then I stripped everything off the top, ran to harbor freight and bought 3 mini furniture dollies and flipped the SS. So this week I will do some repairs and start polishing. I do have a split in the bow from the junk trailer, which is all cleaned up with a new set of lights and on CL.:D.......Oh yes, my son was gone , so I built a little motor stand for the 50 and got the High Lift jack and pulled the 50 solo! Actually went very smooth. All in all pretty productive Saturday in between chores.
