If you have the anchor mounted on a pulpit then a lot of guys will use a knot similiar to that to attach to a cleat. Helps keep it from going over while you're underway. Then again, if your mother-in-law ....................never mind.

Hmmm...there are some 'rust' colored stains, on it!

I get the pulpit thing...but not on this boat!

I still have 20 lbs of plastic worms left...1 lb goes to whoever figures this out (and convinces me)!

Could be for a shallow set point I suppose. How far is the knot from the anchor itself? If it is just deep enough to allow you to anchor the boat near shore without beaching it, it was just used as an easy depth gauge for anchoring near shore.

GOOD night folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you pull up to a beach/ ground the boat you dont have to unwind all the rope, push the anchor in the ground and loop the hoop around the cleat.

Perhaps just used as a handle for ease of tossing/pulling/lifting/etc?

Only the person who put the knot in the rope knows why he did it. Is he around to ask?

I have a knot in about the same place on mine, I watch for the knot, when it gets to the rub rail I know to slow down and be careful so I don't bang up my shiny hull with the chain.

Nope.

He has caller ID...and doesn't answer any of my calls! :D

Some of the above sound pretty reasonable, though.

Some one asked the distance of the knot, from the anchor...the chain is 5', so the knot is around 10'.

I have a knot in about the same place on mine, I feel for the knot, when it gets to my hand I know to slow down and be careful so I don't bang up my shiny hull with the chain.

This could be it...since that is how I ended up 'using' it!

But...it is more than just a knot...it has a loop formed. He must have used it to tie off...or attach something else to...?

I'm going with the attaches a float to the line so you know where your anchor is positioned.

Re: Why is this knot in my rode...?

Because one time when he through the anchor out the rope got tangled. The knot was to tight to untie and he didn't want to spend the money to replace the rope.:D
