I don't understand the question. I know what the words mean, I just don't know what you mean when you use them in that context.

Just who is it you are asking if I agree with? You? You don't negotiate with terrorists, that's just stupid.

Who proposed such a thing? Was it France? deputydawg said some whiners up in Nebraska talked about it. But I never heard anybody actually suggest it until you did. Besides which, they're dead...maybe we could help negiotiate their way to 4ell!

Well, pointer, guess you got us there. Hard to argue with such stellar logic:
Clinton lied, therefore Bush must have told the truth.
Rather & Moore said Bush lied, therefore Bush must have told the truth.

I refuse to blindly accept everything my government tells me, therefore I'm a Bush-hater.

You obviously preferred Sadam's Iraq to Bush's America, where the citizens are allowed to ask the tough questions.

jtexas,

Please. Misquoting me won't change the facts. I have no problem questioning our leadership. Didn't say otherwise. What I said is why is the left calling him a liar without proof. You know what proof is, substantiation, information supporting the statement. The world and the democrats agreed with Bush until things got messy. Then they started with the liar stuff. Until the Bush presidency, calling the president a liar was almost unheard of. The level of discourse initiated by the left is running our world position into the sewer.

My post was clear. I never said anything like your charactorization of it. It is easily accessable to you or anyone else to read it. It is right there. I said nothing even close to what you said. I didn't draw a parallel between Bush and Clinton. I used Clinton to demonstrate what a real lie is.

Prove to me Bush lied. I can prove Clinton lied. He said he did. But there on our tv is that pathitic pile of hate stating that our president lied and killed people. That is shameful and sickening. Just because it fit some people's psychological needs doesn't make it true or proper. I pointed to numerous countries that drew the same conclusion as our president but hey it is just easier to call our president a liar, marginalize our country and forward the agenda of those (G. Soros) who can only be described as a socialist.

I didn't realize that charactor assasination is the same as political discourse. I sincerely thought the intellegent members of society would shun such hate speech in favor of factual discussion in search of solutions and truth regardless of political stripe or affiliation. I guess I set my expectations of our citizenry too high. Such a shame, we used to be a country united.

Please don't misquote me it does nothing to forward the debate.

Re: Who killed the Kurds?....how?..

pointer, I have to believe that anyone with nearly 2000 posts on iboats would realize that political discourse is by definition character assasination.

Of course you are right (except of course that calling the president a liar has always been par for the course, at least for as long as presidents have been politicians, as evidence, refer to Bush's immediate predecessor; for that very reason I sometimes think maybe we should restrict political offices for lawyers only, and filter out actors, singers, astronauts, spoiled rich kids & others...and it's not very nice to refer to Monica as "fat"...and we are as united as we ever were). But I'm going back to my original policy of shunning hate speech.

For those who didn't even read Pointer's post before commenting on it:

He made the point that people have beliefs based on what Michael Moore says. Not "they lied, so Bush tells the truth".

No matter what side of the fence you are on, read before you comment. You'll end up misquoting someone else.

Political discourse and character assasination are absolutley not the same.

Sorry Brett, let me clarify...here on iboats, political discourse is frequently accompanied by character assasination, and character assasination rarely occurs in any other context. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find one without the other.

I'm not complaining...it makes for interesting reading while waiting for answers to one's boating questions.

VERY well said truth.

Two points you're missing though. You have to assume that your audience has:

1. Common sense.

2. A sense of right and wrong as determined by several hundred years of civilized society. We've pretty much destroyed that in the last 40.
