My son's 1990 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel 2500. Pulls the 1998 Wellcraft 240 SE with ease. Actually makes the truck ride a bit better. That was the day we pulled 'er out last November in a bit of a gale with some sleet to make it fun.IMG_1040.jpg

I pull the 200LE Chap with my 03 Ford Expedition. It has 5.4 V8 4X4 and a KandN. The weight of the boat, trailer and gear tops out around 4100 lbs (we think). It does a good job for the most part. We have a long haul coming up this summer. About 450 miles each way. Going to get the trans fluid and filter changed as well as the rear diff fluid.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Dad pulled his 16' Starcraft Sea Scout with a 70 Chevy Biscayne 6-cylinder 3-speed manual originally, followed by a 74 Biscayne (Canadian) with a 350, then an 87 Mazda B2000 longbed pickup with a 5-speed, ending up with a 94 Ford Aerostar V6 5-speed manual (ever seen one?). At that point he purchased another Starcraft (I want to say it was an FM-16)

I can still remember seeing a 16' tri-hull with a V4 OMC trying to get up a greasy boat launch ramp behind a V8 Maverick. Not only was the car too light to be towing such a heavy boat, but it also needed a limit slip differential as it was simply smoking the right rear tire and going nowhere. It was impressive if you like clouds of tire smoke.

A friend used to tow his 15' Thundercraft fiberglass V-hull runabout & 70 Merc behind a 5-speed Honda Accord hatchback. To everyone's surprise it wasn't bad.

1994 Campion 18' bowrider - pulling with a 1990 Toyota LandCruiser right hand drive with 4.2L straight six turbodiesel and a 5 speed. I can't pass on a two-lane highway, but otherwise I'm good.

I'm sorry, maybe that post is now a tradition but as a new comers to this forum, being at the end of a 1000 answers, its takes a while to get to see your answer, plus, sence 2008, many of you may have been through a couple more tow vehicles. Lets see/hear about what you have now.
Some of you may have seen this already, but this is my current tow vehicle. It's a 1960 Plymouth Suburban. It is a push button, on the dash, 2 spd. automatic/220HP 318 motor. It gets just under 17 MPG towing and room for 4' x 8' sheets of plywood. Terrible brakes, and the fender mounted mirrows are horrible for towing. The review mirror is mounted low on the dash, not on the upper part of the windshield, so you can't even see over the tailgate, it wanders all over the road. It definately requires your attention to dive but I love it and I use it on 6 hrs tows to Canada and the trailor is hardly noticed.

udoittwo - I merged your thread with the one form '08. No need to have identical threads on the subject. Especially since the one from '08 is ongoing.....

Thanks, WIMUSKY

That's quite the awesome tow vehicle you have there but I picture more of a boat like this behind it.

I use a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 4.7L V8 to pull a 1971 Glastron V156 Sportster with a 1980 Mariner 25 HP.

2011 Ford E-350 pulling a 15' Gregor Canadian Special aluminum boat. Total mismatch but the van came first for a 26' TT I no longer own.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Late reply I know. The sorento pulled the 23' Interceptor fine. It has a six speed tranny and 280 hp so it has enough gears to stay in the sweet spot. It does downshift a lot when hitting hills but it has plenty of power.

kind of funny this thread resurfaced.

2005 Ford Expedition EB 4x4 5.4 V8

This was her on Friday.

Thats our 1993 Lowe Pontoon Its a 28'

This was her pulling the 16 Starcraft that I just sold.

She just got a set of General Grabber tires which made a HUGE difference pulling the toon up the ramp. No traction control or 4x4 needed to pull the toon up.
