so, got my new mercathode in and it is the updated one- I tried to get the original one as first, I'm cheap and second, I figured it would be plug and play so to speak with no issues of needing any other parts updated. It sure looks a little different for sure and also see they added some drain holes to it. Should all the connections to the mercathode mother ship all be the same? I don't really know where the wires goes other than thru the transom and into a plug that came off the engine somewhere......

Post 291 has the manual.
The two leads from the anode go to the Mercathode. See page 7A-19 in link below

so when they updated the anode, they did not change the controller assuming I'm using the correct terms!

Correct, they still work the same way. Now they do make one which puts out more power (think its black in color)

so I was looking at the parts manual on line at home and on the mercathode, it shows "special" washers for the screws that mount it to the bottom of the gimbal- I don't recall anything special there other than washers...I don't have access to the manual here at work to get the exact description but are they indeed "special" somehow? Since I am going at this painfully slow, at least I can make sure everything is right!

that's what I figured.....just don't want to go through all of this and cut corners. Will order the last hose and couple minor items this weekend and then start putting this back together!

Looking at the parts link, it looks as if the bolts go to the inside of the o-ring seal. Would they have a rubber Surface on one side of the washer to seal them from leaking?

It's kind of a double o ring. One internal just for wires and another around the bolts (kind of a oval)

then there was the previous version that had just an o ring. I'm not sure what got mine- where the wires go through the manifile was heavily corroded. When I tried to pull the anode down, it would not budge and ended up cutting the wires to get it off- I had the original design which had no drainage holes in it which I think was a problem on the out side. Also, the leak I had, hopefully past tense when it all goes back together, water was sitting in the bottom there and probably corroded where the wires go through from the inside. Manifold was corroded on both sides.I was able to clean that up and I will put some sealant on that gasket to make sure nothing is leaking through there....new version also has drain holes in it, the old would just puddle it. Another thing I'm learning about this system is that it draws voltage when the boat is off and out of the water and the newer version of this anode apparently draws more voltage. My batteries are often dead if I leave the boat sit a couple of weeks. I'm sure there is other stuff drawing voltage as well.

So, today is the official day of starting to put this rascal back together...got my last trim hose in so ready. So where the trim lines go to the manifold and the manifold to to the gimbal, those are all dry connections correct? I have the gaset but it did not seem like there was anything there when I took it apart but then the gasket pretty much all came apart...will look at the service manaal also but thought I'd ask my experts anyway!

Ayuh,.... The hose ends need No sealant, but perfect seal helps insure they'll unscrew years from now,.....

For the manifold gasket, so long as the castin' surfaces are clean dry, 'n Flat,....
No sealant is necessary,..... but a dab of perfect seal will insure the nuts will unscrew later,...

If ya got a beat up corroded surface, ya do what ya gotta do,....

I don't see any parts sheets on the speedo connection at the gimbal housing...I have a new quick connect on the inside, I have the silver threaded part that goes in the gimbal housing but when tightened all the way down, it does not protrude far enough to get the hose on...might look like you can slip it on there but there would be nothing to hold it in place?
