I see a marketing opportunity. Nuclear Snot Remover - Guaranteed to work, but hey, are you really going to care?.

Goo Gone has always worked well for me. I stopped buying large bottles, it seems to lose it's strength after a while. A fresh bottle works great.

That snot is actually the nasty glasser's demon soul. You're going to need to have the trailer exercised

Thanks for the suggestions, I will pop on the goo gone for the next match. If that doesn't work I will call a Catholic priest and grab a gallon jug of holy water.

IMG_0107.jpgIMG_0102.jpg i used the goof off ( spray seemed to work best ) and a wire wheel on drill for inside of gunnels. not as big an area as you are dealing with ,but worth the purchase of a can to try i believe. worked well , spray on , wait 5 minutes, hit her with the wheel. good luck

and the results of the great atomic goo attack. I popped the 9 bucks on a spray bottle of Goo Gone. I also dug out a few things that I thought may help the situation like bug and tar remover and some super clean. I wished I had looked at the directions on the Goo Gone before I bought it... apply, wait a few minutes, wipe off with a clean white cloth... uhh really. I waited 5 minutes and sprayed it again and then after 10 minutes I stuck the towel to it and it stuck in the atomic goo. Grabbed the paint scraper, the goo wouldn't budge one little bit that Goo Gone was like I sprayed water on it... -9 bucks for that. Sprayed goo gone, bug and tar remover and super clean all in one spot, let sit and scraped... nodda, wouldn't even take off a tiny piece. The results below...:mad-new:

Ok, so I was a bit upset at doing what I didn't want to do, waste money on products that wouldn't work. Then I remembered something I had stuck in the back of my paint cabinet. Some left over Xylene from last year when I painted my SN. I remembered reading it was for synthetic paints and adhesives. I rushed in grabbed the can that was almost empty. I dobbed some on a spot and let it sit for about 30 seconds and then used the scraper and a rag without much elbow grease below are the results. :thumb:

Yah skip to the chase in the future when it comes to nasty atomic snot goo and grab some Xylene.

Harbor freight sand blaster + screened play sand from HD :D

That's how I stripped stickers and rust from trailers... :D

Yeah I'm thinking with that atomic snot stuff it would end up being sandy snot clods stuck to the frame leaving an even bigger mess.

Onto the rebuild for the trailer, got it cleaned up, sanded, the wore out surge breaks tore out and a fresh coat of white. Check out the fenders sitting on the left side, they had ply for the inside panels, I didn't like that much so I cut out some spare tin and riveted them on. Thinking I may get some new wheels, unless someone knows a way to rehab peeling chrome so I can shoot paint on them.

Bunk boards with spar, dry and ready for some carpet.

Got the gas tank all cinched down with fabbed brackets on top of thick rubber. There was a ton of rubber padding in great shape when I pulled the tank so I cut it to fit, buttered the ribs with 5200 that the tank sits on and pressed the rubber strips on. I also got the bilge pump installed with a fabbed up bracket riveted in.

Long weekend of trailer work and spending on new wire, lights, winch strap, U bolts and the list goes on.

Thanks for buzzing my dry dock, wish I had something more exciting to show.

UGH Trailer repairs suck...

TO bad I didn't check in earlier. I have been using mineral spirits on all the heavy duty sticker carp seems to make good work of it, but I am certainly going to remember the Xylene trick too.

I don't mind watching paint dry. :joyous: Snap a pic of the wheels. If the peel is bad, maybe (not sure) sandblasting could take off the loose chrome and give you a base for paint with sandable filling primer. Can't put yucky wheels on that nice clean rehabbed trailer. :nono:

Trailer work looks good. May not be the most exciting work but will certainly look good under the boat.

Re: Tin addiction 18' Starcraft Chieftain

Thanks for pulling up to my dry dock and the encouragement, almost glad to go back to work today after working on that tetanus chariot. I don't want to do another trailer for at least another year :D

I'm happy the bearings and spindles were good because I've had to dump a bunch of money into parts. It's a strong trailer with a 3500# axle. I'm also impressed with the thickness of the tubing and brackets which make it a very heavy trailer. 14" wheels too for the less than perfect launches around here. I don't know how guys don't ruin their trailers that have those little lawn mower wheels on them, ya know the ones you always see on the side of the road with a wheel and hub off.

Reassembly next after the paint cures should be more fun.
