It's a trailer again rather than a driveway ornament :joyous:

Trailer rehab and tank install are looking top shelf, there "aquaman"...What did you end up doing about the wheels...?
I know you have already dropped a load of green on the hauler resto, but if you peruse evilbay for some nice aluminum rollers, even if they are a bit beat and scratched, you could give them a nice once over and end up with some nice polished rollers for short change...

Re: Tin addiction 18' Starcraft Chieftain

Hey Gus thanks for dropping by and the wheel shine pics. I have a buddy who was trying to give me a stack of 4 wheels just about like those off a blazer, problem was they're 15" and my nice tires are 14". So either I buy new wheels or I buy new tires and then scrub on wheels. What to do, what to do.

The old peeling chromes went back on for now, I have time to decide what to do with them. Powder coat place is 100 miles away one way... 400 miles after 2 trips. Not cost effective there. White 14" steel wheels at tire store like $70 each... hmmm

Finished bunking the trailer, 4 8' 2x6 fir. I just have to put in a new cross member of 2x3 steel up at the steel yard, too much of a span up front on this trailer for my liking. Thinking maybe a keel roller will do the trick about halfway between the ends of the bunks and the start or the tongue.

Pulled the Chief out in the sun to work on her.

Notice the bow area?

Put the bow cover mahogany supports in, way cheaper and easier using large flange rivets rather than machine screws and nuts. I got 100 1" pull large flange rivets for what that amount of SS would cost me here.

Good thing you put some wood in her. Looking ghostly all white. :D

I don't know if you need another crossmember, but you need a support roller up front. That's so she doesn't see-saw goin' down the road hittin' bumps.

Trailer work looks great. Yea, I think a keel roller would be beneficial. I plan on one for mine too. Now you can concentrate on the boat. Supports look nice.

Looking real good Agua, I know what you mean about SS fasteners, every time I go to Fastenall it costs me $60 or 70 bucks.

Not sure about how to get a roller in the middle of that span without a new cross member being installed. Here ya go GAB something to focus on besides stark blinding white. Some monster white tin with a bit of color.

Thanks Willy, nice to have the trailer work almost done so I can get some tin on it. My paint is nothing like your super sweet job, I was going to do the same old tired stripe on the side then decided to go with a nice big blue STARCRAFT decal on the side instead with maybe some pin striping.

Looking real good Agua, I know what you mean about SS fasteners, every time I go to Fastenall it costs me $60 or 70 bucks.

I get nauseated with the SS prices here, ACE is the only place with SS so I decided what I can rivet, will get rivets instead.

Whew...i no longer need my sunglasses to look at pictures of your hull

That dark blue really jumps off of the white! Very nautical.

Outstanding work on that trailer! Major support with 4x8x6" bunks!

Water, nice to see some tin going back on. Certainly nothing wrong with blue & white color scheme and I have always been a blue fan. If I ever do another boat I don't believe I would ever do another major paint job as on the Chief. Not only was it super time consuming with the massive prep but the taping and papering multiple times and the cost of the paints and clear make that type of paint job a one time deal.

Hey thanks for stopping in my dry dock guys and the kind words.

Yeah GA that trailer is a whole bunch bigger than it looks in the pics, those 8' boards don't look very big sitting back there. Where you have the roller is where my winch tower will most like have to be located.

Re: Tin addiction 18' Starcraft Chieftain

Oh man today was one with some ups and downs. I forgot a couple simple things that will just take me more time is all, not really murphy things. I was kisking myself for forgetting and loosing a bracket I need and then...

Wife had parked her Buick in front of my truck that was hooked up to my Sea Nymph. She washed her car, dried it and then pulled it up past my truck and boat, parking it next to my work rig. Now she wants to vacuum the inside with the shop vac. The cords not long enough so pull in by the garage I tell her. She walks out past my truck and boat... then promptly backs into the OB on my SN smashing in her car bumper, bending a prop blade and making the prop rub when spun. Suddenly it was my fault when I got upset. Now it's me that's trouble because I got ticked off and to top it off, her car has back up warning sensors that work very well.

Wow, Murphy made quite the loop of the lower 48 today. Sig in Tenn & you out west.

Bummer about the damage to prop & bumper, but esp @ landing in hot water w/ the Admiral for reacting poorly....

Been there. Thankfully, not today ;)
