This hose is not going to go on easy. I spent 2 hours tonight and am no further along. The cord I was using got cut on something sharp so now I can't pull the new hose through from the bottom as I had planned. I am going to have to devise a way to run this hose as its impossible to reach back there. Maybe a piece of cable could be threaded until I could grab it?

If there is something sharp enough to cut your cord be careful pulling a hose through there! You wouldn't want it to get sliced or sit on a sharp edge after installation and chafe...

When it sliced the cord that was the first thing I thought of. And I wouldn't be able to see the lower end, only that the power trim fluid is leaking somewhere. If the new hose is routed along the existing return line it should be the safe.

Let's hope so!! You should email a link to this thread to the dealer you bought it from...and name them personally. If they won't help you...it the only thing short of legal action you can do.

I hope you get that bad dad out on the water soon!!

I don't want any legal action or any other frustration. I just want to go fishing.
I will have another go at it tonight and hopefully this boat will be ready for the weekend.
If anyone has any tips on replacing these inside lines I would appreciate it!

Trying to zip tie/slide the new hose alongside the existing one doesn't seem to work. I tried to zip tie/thread a piece rebar wire alongside and there seems to be some kind of obstruction preventing anything from moving past.
Has anyone seen what's on the other side of the gimbal housing? This is the time I wish I still had my borescope.

Take this question to the merc i/o section and I'll bet you get better responses

Ricohman - any chance working the hose down from the top? Maybe with all that spilt fluid plus a little gravity on your side it might wiggle down thru from the engine compartment side. I like your idea of loosely zip tying it to the other hose for guidance. Maybe that in conjunction with the top down approach will help - unless you think the tie will get hung up on something.

Port Colborne Marine ought to hang their heads in shame for accepting this boat AND for passing it off to you. Absolutely inexcusable. I for one will never, EVER, darken their doorway with my business. I'd also rip that dealership sticker off your transom and shred it. Just shameful...

Wow, didn't know that. Here is a pic of the back of the boat before the transducer was installed. The bunks extend to the back of the transom and there are eyelets for the tiedowns.
The boat came with the tiedowns on the side when I picked it up from the dealer so I assumed that was the way to strap it down. But I guess it isn't the best way.

I can't tell that much from your pics. I brought it to your attention so I did my job. You are there and have a better view than I. Most trailers have movable winch stands and moving it forward a couple of inches won't hurt a thing.

The bunks are flush with the back of the transom. Are you saying I need to pull the boat forward? The eyelets in those pics sticks out behind the transom so using it is no problem.
How much should the bunks stick out past the transom?

I am going to try again tonight. I've tried from the top down already but there is no getting your hands in there. I am going to try and take a piece of wire and make a sharp bend and see if I can get that past whatever is blocking this from going in. I may also try and stick a length of fuel line hose over the end of this one and try from the bottom again.

I'd say that as long as there is no hull overhang, flush is fine. If the objective is to get the tie down loops as far behind the boat as you can, then moving the boat further forward is one option as long as you don't push your tongue weight above recommended limits.

I agree though that anchoring the rear of the boat is better than a strap across the boat. That wont stop any forward slippage in a sudden stop situation on the road.

They are flush, so I will leave it as it is.
If anyone has any pics of what the inside of a 4.3 powered boat looks like without the engine in place this is the place to post them....

You are in luck, my friend. Head on over to jasoutside's Starcraft resto and repower thread. He dropped a 4.3 in a boat VERY much like yours and did some great vids and pics along the way. Be forwarned, tho - it's a loooong thread. Maybe if you PMed him directly he could just email you thd best pics he has and save you two hundred pages of reading :)

Do you have a 'fish tape'? That is what you need for an application like this.

I've got this hose in place and all I have left to do is find the torque specs for the brass nuts that hold the manifold on and the specs for the bolts that hold the anode onto the manifold. I have to bleed it but I've read that this system is self bleeding.
I ended up sliding the new pressure hose up the return line using zip ties and a bicycle brake cable. Whatever works I guess. Its the long weekend in Canada (Canada Day) and I want to be on the water.

I completely agree. I gotta feeling this splash will last longer than an hour and I have both my rods ready to go. The boat doesn't even need to be topped up with at least 130 litres on board yet and my truck is still full. I just need to pack the cooler.
And its the long weekend. Perfect.
