They'll be long gone. And would you kill someone over $400.00?
I hope not.
I share your frustration, but not your resolution.

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

I have that same motion alarm in my shop.It goes off if the door is opened.
The receiver is next to my bed along with my 12 gauge pump.

That is just the way we do things in the south...;)

I would not shoot to kill but a dang sure would blow a leg off!
It would give my 120 pound Mastiff something to snack on....:p

We have every right to protect our property and home and family.

I had a guy break in where i used to live years ago. I caught him in the living room getting ready to head down the hall to the bedroom.
I shot him with a .357,it put him on the floor in one shot.
I hit him in the shoulder.
The Cops did not file any charges at me.He had a little 25 in his coat pocket and i'm sure he would have used it.

I held the gun on him until the Cops got there.

In a way i felt bad for blowing his shoulder nearly off with a hollow point but he would have shot me and the Wife if he made it to the bedroom.

I never want to kill anyone but don't mess with my property or family!

Harbor Freight has them.
They are actually a driveway alarm to detect if a vehicle pulls in but they work great for a motion alarm in my shop.
No wires and the batteries last a long time.
I think it was about 20 bucks.

Just last week 3 crooks tried to rob a jewelry store in South Florida, tied up the owner's wife, owner blew all 3 away with a pistol and shotgun! Sounds like the perfect solution to the problem and very cost effective, no courts, trials, jury, jail, just justice!....Sorry about your wife's pocketbook, after folks get victimized a few times they start thinking more like Harry Callahan!

Really hoovers when fook'n scum bags do sheet like that. But FYI lethal force is only actionable if a life (yours or anyone else's) is threatened. Not in the protection of personal belongings or property.

Yeah, theives and assorted other criminal types. We can blame it on the judicial system, the judges and prosecutors we elect. I believe that between the judges, prosecutors coupled with the use of drugs these days is the reason we have the problems we have.

Mississippi along with a number of other states has the castle law which allows the use of leathal force in or outside your home. It also protects you in your vehicle and any other place that you yourself are suppose to be and the other guy is not. As for me, I cant say what I will do if or when confronted in or around my home by an armed intruder until that time comes. I'll do what ever I believe is the right thing to do in the split second it will take to decide.

Amen to that! IN THE YARD they get birdshot to pick out of themselves while they thinking about the mistake they made......IN THE HOUSE they don't get the option of thinking about their mistake

Sorry to hear you got targeted. That is an expensive pocketbook plus I gotta imagine there was some cash and stuff that will require time to replace like license etc. Can you recover under your personal property coverage of your auto insurance say if you had a $250 deductible to soften the blow? I'm always trying to instill in my wife that just because it hasn't been broken into before doesn't mean it won't so take your stuff out.

Ya just can't go around shooting all the criminals. Without criminals there'd be no jails, and then there'd be no where for my wife to work, and then she'd have no pension, and then I'd have no boat.:(

Winging em's a good idea though.:)

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

Here in VT years ago...... many people NEVER locked anything. It is sad but the world has changed and now we lock things. It used to be a habit to just leave keys in a car and not lock the doors of the house.

Our security awareness level has gone up. We have one of the lowest crime rates however, we have become more conscious of our actions.

Sorry to hear about the theft. Did they damage the car at the same time? If the car was not locked ......... then it was an open invitation for theft. I hate thieves but I am insured against theft. If my wife ever left her purse in the car and it was stolen ...... I would ask how much damage to the car was there? If none then I would blame my wife for not taking the proper steps for security ie. locking the car and placing things out of sight.

I would be apt to wire up an audible alarm system to make some noise when the car door is opened........ then I would be there in a flash. Silent alarms followed by an armed response is not the job of the homeowner......... if you go silent just call the Police.

Well..... I have ranted enough...... hey Fairlaneman ...... you need to buy your wife a nice purse for Christmas.

Happy Holidays!

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

In NC (and most of the south) we have the 'Castle Doctrine' (which is under review) which 'help' protect us but has it's limitations....we as the victim, have the right to use force to protect our 'life', shooting someone trying to steal our boat/car/4 wheeler is not life threatening, use good judgment...booby traps, bait and shoot are forms of a premeditated act, be careful trying to 'catch' a thief in the act!

On the other side of the fence, thieves know we are armed to the teeth and WILL NOT HESITATE to take our life...their life is worthless, taking your life for $10 is nothing more than a finger pull away.

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

24hour Video Survellence using an IP Camera and the warning sticker to go along with them is one preventitive measure. I don't lock my cars as I don't want the hassle of replacing the window after a thieve breaks it and realized there is nothing of value besides the vehicle itself.

If they want the vehicle they can have it...if they are willing to commit one felony they are willing to commit a second and I'd rather not get involved with the felons.

They rifled through 2 of my vehicles last year, normally I park in the garage but it was tied up with my boat in there. Apparently the would-be theives decided the empty smoke packs and pop cans weren't worth it as they left them behind and went after my neighbors $300 she had in her car.

I got chewed out by my girlfriend for leaving her vehicle unlocked but it wasn't nearly as bad as filing insurance claims and police reports...although I did file a report and found out I was the 20th person to report an incident and nothing was stolen so there wasn't much to report on.

If I wanted to get in a gun battle with evil I would have stayed in the Military.

QUOTE]

I wouldn't but I would kill someone for being a worthless POS thief.

I have let a pitbull go after a guy breaking into my Mustang in Florida That guy has probably never run that fast before in his life. I let him chase him for a bit then called him off.
and in wis I caught a guy messing with my motorcycle. I lived in an apt so I had to resort to compound bow. just put one in the ground 1 foot from his feet. never seen either of them again.
no i didn't kill either of them and in reality I probably wouldn't but I sure wouldn't feel sorry for a thief that met his end while robbing someone.

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

actually if she had a $400 purse in the trunk that was taken, I would think it is someone who knows she has that purse and that she puts it in the trunk. I would be willing to bet it's someone who knows you guys not just a random thing.

Re: thieves took wifes pocketbook

I hate to say it but i always felt "Shoot first, ask questions later"

If some scumbag breaks into the house it is fair game in my opinion.
If they break into the shop or garage then they get the dogs first and buckshot second.
My property is fenced in with motion lights and No Trespassing signs so that is their warning.

One night the lights out back came on behind my shop.
I let both dogs out and grabbed the 12 gauge.
I found a crack head on top of my camper,The dogs about got him but he climbed up the ladder on the camper.

He peed his pants too....Funny as *ell when the Cops got there and the front of his pants were soaked!

My one dog sounds like a bull running and has a super deep growl.
The other one will sneak up on them and bite like crazy.
