I'll need your first name TGP so I can add ya to the first posting.

Tim is my first name.

My 66' Nassau was free too! I paid $125 in scrap money for that one. Lucky , or a sucker for punishment. I'm not sure which. I now have 2 boats with no time for either one.

Ok so Ive been lurking around here and posted a few things here and there but I have decided that I too would like to find a nice Starcraft that I could rebuild into what I would like.So my names Brian and I would like to find an inexpensive S-craft too.Im not in a hurry so waiting for the right boat and deal isnt an issue.

Howdy Brenn! Boy did you come to the right place!

Say a little bit more about what you wanna do with your new boat and how many passengers you'll have. That'll help folks narrow the search.

Also, this site helps you search CL a lot more efficiently (it's how I found my boat)

It will mostly be used for fishing and some tubing and so on here and there.I think if i could seat 3 or 4 comfortabley that would be great.I live north of seattle so it will see alot of different types of waters.Rivers, lakes and salt water.I would also like to do some crabbing and so on also.As far as I/O or an O/B I would have to say I probably prefer the O/B but if the boat is nice enough I wouldnt mind an I/O.

I was thinking an 18ft SS would probably be about right.Though you guys obviously know better than me.I do know I do not want a tiller and having a windshield is a must. With the weather around my area having a windshield with atleast some kind of top to keep the rain off of you is a must. Thanks in advance and to Papa already for the help.I will definitely check out that search you listed.

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Hi, guys... I am another newbie. I have been following the Starcraft threads for a month and have yet to find a 16' or 18' 0/B Super Sport anywhere. Like a lot of people I am looking for the steal of a deal $500 or less boat in someone's backyard or garage. No luck so far. If anyone has any leads or tips I would appreciate. I am a Missouri native but will travel anywhere in the Midwest to get one... well as long as the trailer will make the trip back :)

Welcome fellas! Well, you are definitely hanging where the real bottom feeders gather.;) You gotta be in for the long haul if you really want the "free (or nearly free)" Super Sport. It can be done and they are out there, but, you'll probably see a hundred of em for sale before you find one the for the low, low price of a glass of water. And, when you do see it, you have to move like greased lightning:D

Welcome guys, I have added ya both to post #1, and we'll keep an eye out for ya!:)

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Thanks for the help guys! Brenn here is a link to one that is a loooooooooooooooong ways away from you in Milwaukee... I thought I struck gold but then was crushed when he send me the pictures and it wasn't an open bow model. I have to have the open bow because I will use for a variety of fishing. Looks like it could be a steal for the right person. He will text pictures if you text him. The search continues. Jasotuside... I am in for the long haul but I have a feeling I might get tempted and spend a little more. :)

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Just found another one that is in better shape than I am looking for possibly. But of course it sounds like this guy might not know the transom and floor are rotten, so maybe you could get him down under a thousand... but this is the exact SS I am looking for. My wife will leave me if I spend this much right now. :)

If that OB checks out that would be waaaaaaayyyyy worth it!

You gotta remember, if ya buy a garbage hull for nothing you still have to buy the pusher. And, that you want to be in good shape, eh!

Great package deal there...I'd be all over that like white on rice if I were looking:D

(make sure to check compression on that 70hp, and offer $800 to start out)

That is a sweet rig... I might have to investigate it closer. It's hard to do long distance like that. I travel for work so I can find an excuse to get up there maybe. What the best way to check the compression on an o/b, besides taking it out on a lake and giving it hell??

(I know the setup isnt extremely rare but still....)

Ya for the setup .... I was in for a little less. You can always negotiate. But for a lower price you wouldnt hear me complaining :D

Compression testers are a couple bucks at any auto parts store. I think you just take out all the plugs, put the test in each whole and hit the starter for a couple secs for each.
