I think this only applies to when you set foot on land, but call the number and ask for clarification on that detail.
As for ID requirements, this is what they say;
"If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification."

They fire off a black powder cannon over looking Deadman bay several times a day as part of the show. It's pretty startling from Cedar island if you are not ready for the boom to break the peace and quiet.
