Just need to make sure the extra height for under the lid storage lets you open the upholstered cooler top fully:

The bolster isn't fastened to the vertical side arms yet ^^^

Also have to pull the brand new upholstered top apart to get the cooler lid loose from the cushion so the cooler can be 'sealed' closed....

I think that's a great idea for raising the seat. The back could be easily raised with a $30 investment in SS tube. It would swing slightly further in both directions too, which would help clear the"lid" and might make the seat deeper front to back for comfort. - Grandad

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

lots to think about there. the problem with the Plano boxes is that they're too small to hold many of the lures i drag; i use Stanley tool/hardware carriers. leaving the cooler at std height and raising the lid does have the advantage of keeping the weight of the ice/water/beer/fish/beer/beer lower. i need to do some thinkin and starin; may need to finish the console first so i can see how much height i need to add.

i'm also doing some test fitting and am thinking about an undefloor bow tank again. the 18 gal stock-SC-replacement by Moeller fits between the stringers but sits an inch or so higher than floor, more with a shelf under it. they also make a 25 gal that's same height and width but 47 instead of 36" long. thinking of mounting it so the filler/vent hoses come up just forward of my vertical bulkhead (under the old dash) and thus can be routed up to filler on bow. i'd need to build a "bridge" over the top of tank to protect tank and for boat rigidity, but that's right where i need a step up to the bow anyway. not sure on this; of course, i'd cut into foam space, but tank provides a little flotation anyway, significant amount if empty. any thoughts/jeers/maniacal laughter welcome!

I'm not 'seeing' what your saying about the tank height step/bridge. But too high I get.

If you can make an almost 50% larger capacity tank work, I would definitely go bigger & figure out how to protect it/cover it etc.

It's an 18ft'r, so IMO, the extra weight & reserve capacity of 7gal would be no problem and well worth having aboard.

Of course, I'm also not taking a small porta-bot 12miles off shore & fishing for fish that are longer then the boat & weight nearly what the boat & I do combined. Who in their right mind would do that? I mean come on that's just a touch too close to crazy to suit me....... Right? ;)

No more thoughts, guess I'll pack it in & head home. The jeers shall stop here  Maniacal laughter shall continue......

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

well, my closest fishing buddy does call me Capt Ahab....i may sink the boat and drown the crew, dangit, but i'm a gonna get that whale.

but that PALEs compared to the current danger. said fishing buddy just called to tell me that my newest boat arrived and is sitting safely in his warehouse. dunno if i mentioned this, but i bought a Hobie Mirage yak for EOKSTU as a late Xmas gift. cost me over 4x what i paid for the Holiner...... now i have to wait til just the right moment to spring it on her. she's wanted a yak but may not be amused at another boat when we're trying to downsize for the move west.

this weekend will consist of installing an alarm system and security cameras instead of boat work. someone broke into her house this week and came inside but didn't take anything. it may have been while she was asleep, which really has us both freaked out. she's a whiz with a pistol but that don't help if she awakes with the guy standing over her. does anybody know where i can get a motion sensor that will operate a Remington 870? (not finding the "murderous rage" smilie....) i try to be nice and above mindless violence, but would like to run the guy through the chipper shredder for shark chum...........oh well, tech and $ to the rescue....she'll have a 4 camera system and alarms on all doors and windows in place by tomorrow night.

A dog, even a small one is a good alarm. They wake up at the slightest noise and would allow EOKSTU time to grab the armament. And they're so cute. :joyous:

The right little dog would also adapt really well to Yak outings.:joyous:

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

she used to have a chow-shepherd mix dog who was not only cute but would dismember anyone who threatened her, but poor ole Ginger was hit by a car last January. i've suggested another dog, or taking one of ours from my house, but she doesn't want to get another one. i'll keep suggesting but she's independent and ornery enough that i don't do more than that. one nice thing about an adobe house is that you can gleefully put a round into the wall with no damage, and my 30 years' experience dealing with burglars (representing them) tells me that the reason they burgle in the first place is that they're not very brave.....gun blast, directed towards them or not, will send them heading for less hostile environs in a hurry....so i suggested that she just shoot into the wall if she hears anyone in the house who shouldn't be there. much easier to just patch a hole than deal with the trauma of a bleeding dead body in your house. if the guy don't leave after one, he'll learn what "total fragmentation soft point" means, the hard way. note the clay block on the right: RBCD Performance Plus

My too hounds aren't real fond of the boat so far, we'll see how they like a closed bow.

Maybe it's cuz of the rain coats they had to wear. I think you'll find that you'll get less water in the boat with the dogs behind the dash of the closed bow or under it. Though I do remember the time our 70 lb yellow lab went off the closed bow of our 17' FG Winner to chase a duck that swam by. We did get a lot of water in the boat that day after he chased the duck for 10 minutes. By the way, I found a struggling wet lab is about 90 lbs, especially when trying to lift by gripping him by the scruff. - Grandad

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

While under way, my Dog always wanted to hug my Dad's feet or be back by the motor well.
While anchored or adrift he'd want to jump into water. He was a chore to get back into the boat as my Dad always purchased boats with high sidewalls and tiny swim platforms. He'd say they get in the way of fishing if they are to big. He wasn't the one in the water hauling the dog back onto the boat!

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

well, i'm rejoining the land of the living after being sidelined for better part of a week with a nasty head cold, gracias a la Admiral (caught it from her last weekend). i almost never catch colds but made up for lost misery this time. very little boat work, but i have been getting a small amount of progress on a few things i can work on indoors.

FINALLY reassembling the dash for good now that i (hopefully) have all the possible water intrusion points adequately gooped. working in the kitchen cuz it's best lit work space. i'm using clear Lexel to seal around the gauges etc since i don't want water getting iside the console.

the swim step needed to be prep'd for final install so i pulled it apart and got after the teak with jitterbug/epoxy/spar. i'm pretty happy with the results so far.

It's interesting to note that there doesn't appear to be any evidence of food or it's consumption in that kitchen pix

A few beverage containers on the far right, but nary a frosty libation dead soldier to boot....... Shameful really. :faint2:

Nice work on the gauge panel et al ;)
