Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome
Hola gents!
Sorry I been out of touch for a bit. We’ve been absolutely buried at work and now, in addition to the unpaid furloughs every 2 weeks, find we may be getting laid off. Current projections for FY2014 are that our outfit will have to lay off 25 out of 100 people. Good chance I may voluntarily go to part time (4 days/wk). Good thing the wife’s house is almost paid off.
A little progress on the boat, and a few major life decisions. I realized after that last Mexico trip that I NEED to live near an ocean, at least close enough I can go fishing there on weekends. East coast is too crowded, gulf coast is both crowded and way too hot n muggy. You can see where this is going. Added to this is the fact that the Admiral has always wanted to live in the Pac NW but had feared The Prices. What really capped things is that all the places we’d looked at even in northern NM and CO were $250K+ for anything we really liked. Heck, I saw a bunch of places for over 300 in the EP area (AKA armpit of the earth). Sooooo...we’ve been looking in the redwood and coastal belt of norcal/OR and have found a bunch of places we like in a semi affordable range (assuming we sell everything we own here), many with waterfront and 40 to 160 acres. Most will need some work, but nothing like what the cabin required.
Nothing will happen soon but it’s given me a renewed sense of purpose on paring down my debris and getting my house salable. And a renewed strength to say no to lots of intriguing tinnies, incl the nice 14' Starcraft in my own town....at one point, I would have told you that was exactly what I was looking for. Spent many hours this weekend getting the FIAT ready to go to a new home, and got rid of the large unknown-vintage propane tank (sticking it out front with a “GRATIS” sign on it almost always makes stuff go away, without the work of taking it to Goodwill....). So.....on to the Holiday.
Got the transom sanded down the rest of the way (found that using a roloc disc in the die grinder is THE BOMB for working around rivets)

[/IMG]Bad spraying conditions resulted in less than luvverly job; I wet sanded it back down with 400 grit after 2 coats and tried to fix the booboos but ended up with even more after this effort. Finally decided to just leave bad enough alone and hope that all the junk on stern covers the runs etc.
