You aren't looking at it the right way, B. Your sail was 59% of your LOA, 7/12. They even never came close.

Good to see you back Bruce. You are a braver man than me going out in seas like that in a dingy:eek: In my opinion any fish caught is a bonus on any fishing trip. Cuz a bad days fishing is still better than a good day at work.

Bruce... +100 on what everyone has said.... glad you made it back... glad you had fun... glad to see that it still matters how you fish not so much as what you fish in! The fact that you managed to get some pic's is impressive!

Although... seeing some more pics of the area/water etc would be awesome!

OK, i've gone far enough afield from Starcraft resto here and don't want to get EZ coming down on me with the rhinoceros hide whip, so here's a link to the photobucket gallery of the rest of em:

Awesome pics man! Some pretty large fish there in a couple of pics! You are a brave man to be out there with a small boat --- but gotta admit, that is one well equiped boat you've got there!!! Looks like you've thought that out over time!

Now... are you back at boat building or just recovering for a bit?? :)

Awesome Bruce, you can almost throw a rock across our lakes, I can't see any land on the horizon in your pics, I don't think I would even be comfy on the 201 out there.

Great pics, B. Big fish, little fish, food, coastline and your villa (?). :joyous: Seas half as high as your PB is long. I know you had a great time.

Woza, a sail fish! Glad you had a good time and made it back safely. Bruce the scenery is just beautiful, stunning. Spend as much time there as you can. I hope the next trip is with the Starcraft.

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

gracias again, guys.

well, back to the Holiner this week, altho highs in the 106-107 range are making me move slowly. next step on getting transom done is to finish painting the exterior before i have a jillion bolts to work around, so i got started on sanding. not going to go down to bare metal cept where i have to, but i am gonna remove the kitchen and bathroom enamel someone used below water line...

also got the really nasty job of sanding down all the stray and excess fiberglass inside the console done, i hope. :grumpy:

106-107 - Thought you said it was hot there in the desert. :faint2: It's not even summer yet. Keep pluggin' away, the end of the tunnel is out there.

Bruce... it's "dry" heat... :) Barely above freezing for you southerners!!!...

Nice progress man! If it gets any colder, I would highly recommend gloves and toque!

I'd recommend a liquid stripper for the kitchen enamel however it would probably spontaneously ignite when you went to apply it in that heat

Good to see ya' back at it Bruce!

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

Hola gents!
Sorry I been out of touch for a bit. We’ve been absolutely buried at work and now, in addition to the unpaid furloughs every 2 weeks, find we may be getting laid off. Current projections for FY2014 are that our outfit will have to lay off 25 out of 100 people. Good chance I may voluntarily go to part time (4 days/wk). Good thing the wife’s house is almost paid off.

A little progress on the boat, and a few major life decisions. I realized after that last Mexico trip that I NEED to live near an ocean, at least close enough I can go fishing there on weekends. East coast is too crowded, gulf coast is both crowded and way too hot n muggy. You can see where this is going. Added to this is the fact that the Admiral has always wanted to live in the Pac NW but had feared The Prices. What really capped things is that all the places we’d looked at even in northern NM and CO were $250K+ for anything we really liked. Heck, I saw a bunch of places for over 300 in the EP area (AKA armpit of the earth). Sooooo...we’ve been looking in the redwood and coastal belt of norcal/OR and have found a bunch of places we like in a semi affordable range (assuming we sell everything we own here), many with waterfront and 40 to 160 acres. Most will need some work, but nothing like what the cabin required.

Nothing will happen soon but it’s given me a renewed sense of purpose on paring down my debris and getting my house salable. And a renewed strength to say no to lots of intriguing tinnies, incl the nice 14' Starcraft in my own town....at one point, I would have told you that was exactly what I was looking for. Spent many hours this weekend getting the FIAT ready to go to a new home, and got rid of the large unknown-vintage propane tank (sticking it out front with a “GRATIS” sign on it almost always makes stuff go away, without the work of taking it to Goodwill....). So.....on to the Holiday.

Got the transom sanded down the rest of the way (found that using a roloc disc in the die grinder is THE BOMB for working around rivets)

P1010553.jpg
[/IMG]and then regular primer, then topcoated.
P1010554.jpg
[/IMG]Bad spraying conditions resulted in less than luvverly job; I wet sanded it back down with 400 grit after 2 coats and tried to fix the booboos but ended up with even more after this effort. Finally decided to just leave bad enough alone and hope that all the junk on stern covers the runs etc.

Zero apologies necessary B2...understandable considering that boat load of circumstances!

The Holiner transom looks gorgeous from here!

...and don't worry, the canadian-mobsters will eventually snatch-up that tin...once the vacuum cleans-out the North/Northwest
