Holiday today, the day before Grand final,. great... don't really follow Aussie Rules football which is on tomorrow, Im more of All-Black (NZ) rugby follower, however will take the holiday and have taken Monday off to get some work done on boat

Had to put turbo collector back onto exhaust, all good alignment is easy

Then all day in/out of boat measuring, cutting, grinding, tack welding the waste gate exhaust pipes

well got the first one out of the way
took longer than expected but pleased with results

Need to get a few more 90 degree bends tomorrow
will need to brace them to transom somehow

Port side tomorrow

Hydraulics:
  • Arneson trim cylinder, need to organise a few more fittings
    • 2* JIC -04 male to 3/8"- 24 tpi straights
    • 2* JIC 04 male to 7/17-20 tpi 90 degree

  • Arneson Trim Ram Hoses: found some reasonable prices stainless braided lines JIC -06 however need 16" and 8" and contact could only provided them already crimped

  • Steering: We now have everything out side of transom for hydraulic so reviewed what hoses and fittings were needed, inside boat. Will go with standard steel 6000 psi fitting with zinc coating as cant see much benefit of using stainless steel unless its for bling. Had a look at some chromed plated fittings, however not sure what the real advantages are if any

  • Steering Hose: will be going with DN 10, 06, 3/8" 2 braided non skive hose with reusable fittings, approx. A$10/m, guess I'll need 18m

the first one is a -3ORB to -4JIC
the second is a -4ORB to -4JIC 90 degree elbow

both common hydraulic fittings

if you look at goodridge pre-crimped brake lines, they are available in #3 and #4 and come pre-crimped. see your local race shop

put heat srink tubing over the steel fitting, or hose it down with boeshield. the salt air will eat the zinc coating in about a week.

For the smaller fittings 4JIC will use stainless
Do you think a chromed plated hydraulic hose fitting would stand up better than standard zinc plated?

if you put adhesive lined heat shrink over it, its fine. even the 304 stainless fittings rust

Power steering:
  • placed the order for 20m x double braided hose
  • and will run with 90 degree jic 16 3/8 elbows

Power steering pump
  • Using GM saginaw banjo
  • Need to get different fitting from O-ring 14 or 16mm to AN6
  • pulled out the pressure value, its 4mm ID hole, so assuming its close to 1500psi
  • wondering whether should opt to install a smaller pressure valve with reduced orifice to limit flow as maybe a little quick on steering box

Arneson trim pump
It mentions in manual that need to limit the Arneson trim ram to 1000 psi
Not sure how to go about reducing the trim pump pressure
had read that you can adjust the valving, however don't want to stuff it up

anyone have any experience with this?

there are basically 6 PRV's for the sagninaw "can-o-ham" pump. ranging from 750 psi to 1500 psi. if it came off a GM truck or a marine motor its set for 1200 psi, if it came off a ford or jag, its set for 900 psi

pressure has minimal to do with flow. the geroter is flow limited. however you can always install a pressure compensated flow control. such as a comtrol unit.

what kind of pump? if its a parker/oildyne 108, pull the reservoir off and turn the PRV's in to reduce pressure. look up the Parker/oildyne 108 manual to get number of turns

waste gate dump pipe, back from being tig welded
had mock up tonight all good fits like they should
another job done
exhaust all finished now
need to make some transom/deck rings to seal the pipes from water washing over back deck and disappearing into engine hatch
Ordered the 3mm silicone, will cut 100/76mm * 2mm thick rings which will work great similar style to the transom rings already completed

I think Harden Marine buys the reservoir from Coleman Racing Products.

yesterday reviewed the Arneson steering mounting point on transom. It appears the lock to lock movement was much more positive on the Port side. Meaning my mounting for steering was slightly out

so decided to set it up correctly and reposition the mount which was moved further out on starboard side of transom.
  • measured and position drive in centre
  • Then Used plumblob on end of prop shaft and measured distance from centre position while moving the drive to port and starboard
  • loosening the steering lock nut first, started with shaft all the way into helm joint
  • then slowly moving shaft out, half a turn at time to get correct dimension.
  • this was found to be 1.75 turns out and then lock nut tightened
  • feeling happy about the drive now
  • tried out the prop 4 blade 16" Dix x 26" Pitch prop to see how she would look

need to drill out the holes in transom and fill with VE/PB and then redrill again for the bolts to ensure not water gets through into transom
will make up a template in 10mm aluminium to ensure the to get the arneson trim and steering mount in same location
