I hate to bring bad news but... I think you need to start over:eek:. Here is the deal...too much work to strip it all over so I will "lend " you mine to work on and I will take use of yours. Only until you finish mine (and do it right this time) and when You are happy with more experience we will trade back so you can try yours again. Hows that?:D

But you need to put another prop on yours first (sorry to hear that):(

Just Beautiful my friend. (sniff, sniff) beautiful.

looks amazing! That is a vent for the gas tank. If you have a built in fuel tank it needs to be vented and hooked up to the vent! If the vent is closed off it will create suction in the tank and poor fuel flow to the motor!

Wow nice looking boat.

Did you paint the boat and then at then end, strip it bare again??? Problems with the paint?

I've gone thru this thread pretty quickly so if I missed it sorry...

Really? That sucks!! Sorry to hear that. Must have been a heart breaker for both of you.

Any ideas of what went wrong? I'm looking to paint a couple aluminum boats soon and wouldn't want the same problems.

I've also thought of leaving them bare aluminum but not sure how they'll stand up as I'm primarily a salt water boater.

I really like the look of the bare aluminum in the above pics.

As a salt water boater, I'd ditch the bare aluminum idea. Mine fell off because I didn't prime. I read that I didn't need to prime if the existing paint was in good structural condition. Just thoroughly scuff it up. Well I think the paints were incompatible and that's why it's flaking off. Now I think Starcrafter primed so I don't know what his issue was.

I think you can seal the alum with a clear coat, then not worry about salt?

That's too bad about your paint.

I guess whatever color or clear I choose I'll need some luck.

Thanks.

LD - I am in EA, take the boat to Kinzua, Lake Erie when I get a "calm" report. Thinking of crusing down the canal. planning a trip to 1000 Islands next year.

The BNL was a total wreck but now she looks good - got some off season tinkering but looking forward to next year.

As far the hull/paint comments - I am thinking of buying that Shark Hide and seeing how that polishes the hull up.....I will keep updating...

My boat looks just like yours now - where are you located? Are you mostly on the river?

What they do for the bare aluminum boats around here is to polish the hull and then have something called SharkHide applied. It is a clear coat that is supposed to be very tough and last a long time. I do not know this for sure as I do not have any friends with bare aluminum boats, actually dont really have any friends either. But that is beside the point, I was thinking of bare aluminum for the Islander as well but will think about it. If I do go that way then I will probably do the sharkhide thing as well.

I am just outside NF and live on the river, have a dock and LD has her bottom wet all summer. Have been on the Kinzua and we stayed at Red Oaks campground
