Re: Starcraft Parts

I have the surround bow rail from my 1972 SS180 if anyone is interested. I love it, but I need that area for a trolling motor, which is a must. I don't know how I would be able to ship it, so it would have to be picked up.
I had the same bow rail on my 18SS I just cut the bow rail in front of the center mounts about 6"to allow room for the bow-mount then put in a couple of bullet end plugs. It looks real good and keeps the bow rail.

If you look past the fat guy holding the perch you can see how I cut them and used the bullets

Re: Starcraft Parts

Is that the trim piece the goes under the motor clamp? I seem to remember someone found some channel that worked, but not an exact replacement.

Watermann @ his Sea Nymph resto:
I remembered when doing the dry fit on the PT unit that my transom cap was mangled, cracked and in 2 pieces.

I had to come up with a new cap so I put my thinking cap on and invited my resto buddy over to help me think. This is what I came up with:
IMAG0312.jpg

Material I used was 1/16th" aluminum stock. With the transom wood in place and secured, we laid the aluminum down on top, started the bend cold and secured it with screws in the middle. Then we applied heat with a torch and used a round steel bar and rolled it downward to create the bend. Once the flat piece was bent it fit nice and tight, then it was secured with screws above the bend and below. Then came the tricky part, heating the aluminum up just right while using a hammer to slowly bang the bend into the aluminum over the edge. There was some smoke from the transom wood so I suggest if someone tries this to do it before the transom wood is all done up.
Cost 18 bucks.

Thats an idea that I have pondered lately. I've also been thinking about those short bow rails on the 1987 SS you finished last year. Have'nt made up my mind yet.

As far as the transom cap goes, those are both great ideas that I could try. Thanks guys!

I have a pair of nice transom caps. Came off of a 1965 Bahama. I can provide better photos if needed. These are solid with no cracks.

I have a complete, TOTALLY rebuilt, 120 Chevy/mercruiser. I has only about 5-8 hours on it. It is in Santa Fe, NM. Not sure how we connect without violating the posting rules.
