15' Aluminum:
Do those have some kind of support splitting the middle under/in the bow area?

Left & right ribs to support the aluminum skin, from what I've seen they are done similar to my glass FireFlite's.

1976 18 foot starcraft. Brand new transom. Title in hand. No trailer. Comes with a 1977 70hp evinrude with controls, no power trim. Running condition unknown. Comes with center console and steering wheel and cable. Lost interest.

It looks like a real mess now, judging by that pic.
I'd have probably just done an area patch and filled in any imperfections with epoxy.
I wonder what grade of aluminum the patch is?

Yah, that hull is entirely held together by those welds now. If they were to crack and give way it would be catastrophic. I just hope the boaters are good swimmers and the OB isn't a 2012 ETech.

I seem to remember that some of us had some other ideas on fixing this one. I wonder if he lost interest or if the project turned out to be too much. The Evinrude is also an unknown scanning other posts. Sorry it turned out this way.

I think at this point the only fix would be to take a heavier gauge aluminum panel, cut about 3" larger than the cut out section, and install it with a staggered double row of rivets all around the perimeter much like the original transom seam is done. I don't think I'd trust someone's weld job. Chances are it's done with propane and Alumaweld sticks not a TIG welder. The edges look burnt all the way around. As much as I love that model boat I have to say I wouldn't touch that one with a 20' pole now.

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

I received an out of the blue email today.
Last August I was talking with a couple that had their Fathers 18 foot SS with a running 90 Johnson.
They wanted 800.00 I think and I approached them for just the hull if another guy bought the motor.
Seems they never sold itand are asking me if I wat the whole package for $250.00
The transom needs to be done for sure..I remember a soft spot..but really who cares?
Will talk with them next week and see what happens

Kev, a 18'ss hull that looks in decent shape with a running 90 for a whole break-the-bank $250? You should be all over that like a fat kid on a Twinkie! Sounds like an amazing deal :)

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

To whom do I send the check, nice looking $250 boat, plus a motor too...

Good work, see it pays to be nice when they reject a lower then asking offer. You just never know, 6+months later & bam a great 18' SS shows up again at bargain basement prices:D:cool:

Maybe I misunderstood your user id:

It's Cheap Boat ~ Kevin

Not Cheap ~ Boat Kevin:p

Outstanding!
