Re: Starcraft Islander project
Not much done the last 2 days...dang pay'n job got in the way.
I did hit the inner transom metal with a DA sander and 80 grit to cut through the junk left behind the transom wood.
There's more widespread pitting on the inside compared to the outside, but nothing that I would call a major repair.
I didn't want to, but I think I need to remove the lower "Z" brackets where the transom wood rests, to check for corrosion.
Just seems silly to be this far in without checking.
Next, I'll remove the bulkheads at the cabin, and then start removing the topside metal. My plan is to go all new metal. A Bomar glass front hatch, no side birth windows, no front birth windows, and a "pilothouse" type 3 window (windshield) hardtop that puts the helm in the dry. I also plan to extend the birth bulkheads aft about 6" for a bit more room in the birth.
Still teetering on the I/O VS Outboard (via bracket)...testing the 165hp engine will likely tell that tale.
