I also keep goin back and forth between 2 AWG and 4AWG wire for the battery runs for the blue sea ACR. The battery’s are gonna be in a bow box, and batteries and acr will all be close together, but i may have to splice/run new cables from the engine. Different charts say different things. Total run from batteries to engine I’ll be no longer than 15ft, then 2x=30’. I believe the Johnson 50 is 65 amps. I’d rather just bulk buy all one size cable. I already have plenty of black and white 12AWG, which should run all accessories besides the trolling motor.

Any input?

I put my starting battery within 6 feet of the motor, but sounds like you have planned for the run length is wire size. Just remember wire will get very hot quickly if you are cranking on it for too long.

As for all other accessories, I used 14 gauged which was over kill. So your 12 gauged will be just fine.

Thanks for input. I got the boxes framed out, a few panels covered in vinyl, and got some of the wiring ran. I went with 4 AWG, runs about 26ft, and i will have 80 amp breakers were the schematic dictates. 4 AWG is def plenty for the breakers and acr. Hopefully have her wired and ready to go inside the next 2 weeks.

It didn’t come with an ignition switch, so i got a compatible Johnson one, which I’ll have to wire up

so the boat came with shift and throttle control cables from previous owner. After setting my throttle control and running cables they are def too big.

Is there any major issues using them with several loops in line? I’ve also got conflicting info about measuring for new ones. One thing says measure your run, round up, then add 2 feet, another says 3. Which is it?!

As long as you have a big enough loop I don't think you should have an issue if your throttle/running cables are to long. You can test how much stiffer they are with and without the loops before install. As for measurement, I did the 2 foot rule. I didn't want to do a loop in the splashwell.

Thanks.

I remarried my run. I got 10’ + whatever additional i need for the loop. The cables that came with it are 14’ teleflex per the stamping on the black plastic housing.

May try to make these work to avoid having to buy new ones right this second, but I’m sure it will bother me and I’ll have to make new ones.

Got more of the box done.

Can anyone help me out?

I am in the wiring phase right now, and the rear of the motor is missing a bolt. I was using the schematic for a 2000 johnson J50PLSIF, as i can’t find anything for my specific model, Johnson 2000 50HP Long Shaft, Model J50VLSIG S/N: G04880135. I used this schematic and was emailing with Crowley and we thought it was bolt 40 part 0322323, but it isn’t, that bolts a good bit too long.

I’ve included 2 pics of the missing bolt area

Best thought I have for that one is ask the question in the johnson/evinrude forum section. Probably someone with knowledge or ownership of that exact model motor that would know more. Thats strange its missing one random bolt though.

Appeciate the advice and will do. I don’t want to try to fire it up if it’s unsafe or will get destroyed cause it’s missing that bolt, even if it will work fine i still want to replace it.

The people i bought the motor off of are clients of mine, I’m a Financial Advisor, and manage their assets. They are good people and i trust them. Told me they would go through one 25 gallon tank of gas a year on their pontoon boat, and it was always maintained and stored annually at the marina. I have no reason to doubt them. My thoughts were the marina mechanics probably stripped, broke, or lost the bolt during a repair or tube up, one missing bolt want going to fuse an issue, and planned on replacing it, and didn’t. otherwise i don’t know why either…. This guy wasn’t fiddling with engines…

Looking at it, it almost looks like its to bolt something on to the engine, not to hold the head to the engine. The head takes 10 bolts per Crowley. So as long as you have your 10, I would guess its for an accessory.

You are correct. I took the advice and posted in the Johnson/Evinrude forums and those guys got back to me right away. It is for piece number 10 which is an Optional temp gauge, mine has an alarm. So I’m good to go.

Got 90% of everything wired and a pin i needed for the throttle control came in, so I’m gonna get that back together tonight and hopefully have all wiring done, and hook the engine up.

I need to get the trolling motor on tomorrow and some detail work, but Fowl Intentions is fully operable and ready for the river. Gotta get the front spud pole bracket mounted and the trolling motor, other then that just some trim/detail work and getting the blind grasses in. Well, got some runs in, a few hunts, no bang up shoots, but got some birds down. So far the boat runs like a dream. Only problem is my one rear seat isn’t in a good position for riding out when the blind is on, or shooting when up, gonna have to tweak my layout. Maybe after season. Time being a little hunting tripod works fine. She was doing about 26mph against the current in 10mph winds with 3 guys, gear, and a dog. Not too bad I’d say.

I want to mount a foam road holder brackets to the hull without drilling, hold the slid poles and extends pole, any suggestions on an an adhesive you guys think would actually hold it? Maybe that marine adhesive i have?

Pics of the bracket i want to mount as well as our thanksgiving hunt with my buddys dog Marv, he’s a great duck dog.

I have so much leftover stuff, and a 15hp tiller, i think i may start trying to pick up a 16-18ft Jon boat and redo that as well, really enjoyed this project!

LOL, we all say we will never try another project, but once we are done we all want another one. One day I may be able to get a 20-24 project boat, but need a bigger garage.

Congratulations on the splash and successful duck hunts!!!

As for those holders, maybe a double sided 3m adhesive tape would work. Cant say how long that would last though.
