Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

After reading VH's last post, I was going to screw with him and tell him we're canceling the get-together...but even I'm not that much of a D-bag.

Every time we go out for the weekend, it makes me hope for the next weekend trip even more. I don't know if I'm just enjoying the boat more and more every year, but I hate to think what it will be like after 5 more years!

VH...did you ever get to see the video? If not, try this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R80mNeZAiI

I'm also really looking forward to this as this is the first time I have ever tried a raft up with people I know, but I don't know...y' know?

VH, your boat will do just fine in saltwater. It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. Every boat I've ever owned has been in salt water and they all performed great right up until the rusted, corroded, and sank out from underneath me!:D

....73 more days until we leave...

I have to agree with Fireman, to a point that is, my first boat was in saltwater all of the 17 years that I had it. I did have to replace the manifold and riser at about 14 years, it was still running fine when I traded it on the current one, someone at the dealer took it and replaced the wood and ran it some more. Flush it good when you pull it out and go from there. I also use Saltaway, it neutralizes salt.

I was kidding about the rust/corrosion thing (hence the grinning face). Just rinse the saltwater off and out of it and you'll be fine. We'll all be happy to give you pointers, especially after a few cocktails!!

No balls!!! Uh I mean... That's really nice of you, Fireman:redface: (maybe he didn't here that)

Still havn't had a chance to see the video, but I will in a few minutes.

I do know, ya know... I know what ya mean, I mean. Ya hear what I'm sayin'?... I'm Just sayin':p

I've been around, and boating on the ocean for more than 3/4 of my life. It's only since I moved down south that I've even experienced boat ramps.;) Didn't mean to give the impression that I'm worried about my boat in salt water. Not a problem. I'll give her a thorough cleaning when I pull her out, and put in at a lake on the way home to flush out the motor and drive more fully than the muffs will allow. I'm the third owner of my boat. She's never been in salt water, and it's about time:D.

Hey, what about hours, minutes and seconds??? Well, I guess we can wait til June for that;)

I've been planning to get a NeutraSalt system when I can afford it. I'm not familiar with Saltaway. Does it work with a similar system to NeutraSalt?

The Saltaway system I use has a container that you put between the hose and muffs while flushing the engine. I have quick disconnects on my hoses and attachments, I flush with plain water 15 min while getting everything out of the boat and getting ready to clean, then with engine at idle I pop the hose off of the muffs and put the Saltaway in the system, takes maybe 2 seconds to make the change. When I see the water foaming out of all exit points I shutdown the engine. then what is left I put a nozzle on the Saltaway canister and spray the boat down, the salt that is stuck on the boat just falls off where spraying with plain water does not touch it. I know there are systems that mount to the engine so you can flush while in water, I do not have that.

This liink will show the mixing unit I use

Thanks for the info nlain. I looked into it, and it's a very affordable kit, even on a low budget. Thanks again!!!

No worries, veritas honus.

We are all in the same group. A family of boaters for a few days. Your problem is mine when we are together. You will be just fine. :)

What are you talking about??? There is no problem; but thankyou:D Did you read all the posts? I was only saying that my boat has never been in salt water. I'm not afraid of it.;) Been swimming, diving, and boating in the ocean most of my life. I'm the third owner of this boat, and the previous two owners never had her in salt water. Now she's mine and it's about time she tastes real water!!!:D

Did you ever get the PM I sent you about taking the boat to the Bahamas? It's still in my sent items. I can resend it if you never got it.

Anyway, really can't wait to meet you and Kimi And the He**razers and everybody!!!

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

Still getting ready for the trip. Making weekend voyages twice a month to keep me amped up for it. Last trip out, lost the genset after 2 hours...wait, technically, I didn't lose it...I mean, it's still there, just not working. Dug into it Monday and it turned out to be a (literally) $5 plastic coupler. Glad it happened now instead of on the way to St. Augustine.

Next month, I treat the engines to new oil, oil filters, fuel filters, raw water impellers, serpentine belts, dist. caps, and rotors. They better say thank you...

I guess what I should have said was if you have a problem, or anybody else does. Anything can happen on the water as you know and Fireman noted. Just letting you know if you need anything, I'll be there for you. :)

I did respond to your PM about the Bahamas. Did you get it?

If you bring your boat, you won't be floating on the way down anyway, as you said you'd be trailering.:) Whether you bring your own boat or not, you'll be floating on one or more boats throughout the time we're together. AKUNA MATA nlain!!!:D Just make sure you bring yourself and your wife...

See ya in June!!!

I'm not sure about bringing a boat either. I've either been working on a boat or fishing on one almost everyday the past few weeks and I don't see that changing one bit.

I may need a vacation from these boats and hang out on the deck of Fireman's, or yours, or veritas honus'...:D

I'm sorry sasto, certainly didn't mean to come off like a butthole:facepalm: After reading and thinking about what I'd posted, I thought I sounded that way. I wanted to post again to apologize, and clarify, but got called away to transport a 4 month old. After Fireman's and nlains posts, and then yours, I was left with the impression that everyone thought that I was worried about my boat's ability to handle salt water. We're all in it together, my Friend. Any problem can and will be overcome collectively, I'm sure... And thank you for the gesture. Please accept my apology.

I never did get a response about the Bahamas. I'd love for you to resend it.

Is it June yet? I'd say that was my Fireman impression, but at this point, everyone would call BS on that:rolleyes:.

I can't wait to meet everyone!!!

I have the feeling that we'll all be hanging out on various boats. You and Kimi are welcome on my boat any time, sasto. It's not a large boat, but we'll be just fine. There's seating for five in the cockpit, and enough floor space for my two sons.:D They like to go in and out of the cuddy anyway. My three year old can be quite a flirt, so better keep an eye on Kimi:rolleyes:.

Technically I could float all the way there, not going to, but I could. Put in out of my back gate, go to ICW and head South. That woudl take too long and cost too much.

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

Yes I do live on the water, it really is nice, my little half fast boat ramp has limitations, I can put in most anytime, have to either take out shortly after the tide turns or wait until about 3/4 tide to take out due to the flow of the water, too fast and creek to narrow to turn and come across to load on the trailer. I have to get out before low tide and return before low tide, otherwise I drop anchor and wait for the tide to come in. I am about an hour from the ICW, I cross it to go to my beach.

I am ready for June to get here so I can meet everyone, it is going to be a good time.
