Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

It was great to meet everyone. Sorry we didnt get a chance to spend more time with you guys. We had some things happen Saturday that prevented us from getting back over there. All I have to say is I am glad my kid is 12. LOL. We spent the afternoon at the beach, then came back to the hotel pool then dinner and bed. Next year we will hopefully bring a boat, and definately stay closer to the marina.

We were looking for your return, mnypitboat. We were hoping to get to know you better. You have a wonderful family and may our paths cross again.

I'd say you guys came in about the right time. I was down on Vilano earlier that week & could barely see across the inlet for all the smoke. Although still hazy in areas it looked to mostly clear out a bit by week's end. Looks like you guys had a blast.

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

Missed a call from sasto at 1620hrs on Thursday. Saw it on my phone at 1830hrs and met up with sasto and Kimi shortly after. It was like meeting up with an old friend. I felt as though we knew one another all our lives. Kimi and Julie were instant friends. We all had a fantastic meeting. It seemed more like a reunion!!! We sat around at the Bayfront Inn drinking beer til 0DARK30 and went to our rooms. The next morning, we got the boat loaded and head out to the ICW together. We saw some beautiful scenery mildly clouded with smoke from distant wild fires. It smelled great!!! What can I say... I'm still a firefighter, and any clean, natural smoke is wonderful to me!!! We met up with fireman and family, and his beautiful boat on the ICW after just under an hour on the water. The boat to boat intros were short lived and we had my "Little dingy" in tow behind Fireman's in under five minutes. We worked smoothly and effectively like a well oiled machine. It was as though we'd done it a thousand times. We had a fantastic meet and greet all the way back to the St Augustine Municipal Marina. The conversation was flowing; as were the "beverages". There wasn't the slightest awkward moment. It was as though we'd all known each other for years. Everything just fell into place and we were as one family on vacation!!! As we approached The Bridge of Lions, we pulled my boat to the stern of Fireman's and I jumped on alone. Again, like a well oiled machine. We worked together as though we'd done it a thousand times. No directions nor instructions being spoken. We simply did what needed to be done between the three of us, (Fireman, sasto, and I), and we were off. Fireman docked first. Smooth as silk. Took no time flat!!! I came in after holding beyond the outer fueling/office dock. As I approached the slip next to Fireman's, one of the marina staff members screamed, "STOP!!!" I immediately did so, and a few seconds later, saw at least a dozen manatees right in front of my boat surfacing!!! I held there for a few minutes watching these beautiful animals "dance" around in front of my boat. They moved on and docking took no time with the help of Fireman and the dockhand.

Dock Party begins!!! We lounge around with the children swimming and fishing and all having a relaxingly great time. Nlain and family arrive, and it's like another group of close relatives arriving to the family reunion!!! We all clicked immediately again. We are a group of old friends meeting for the first time... Up walk mnypitboat and family, and reunion's complete!!! What a great group of people. I love iboats!!!

So here I am, on Anastasia Island, a small barrier island off St Augustine. We had Fireman and family, and sasto and Kimi over for dinner two nights ago. I missed them from the moment they left:(... So did my wife and two children.

Come on September!!! Another get together at sasto's place!!! Life's great!!!:D

We were looking for your return, mnypitboat. We were hoping to get to know you better. You have a wonderful family and may our paths cross again.

We really wanted to come back, but I made too many obligations that weekend. One of my Jeep buddies called and said his dog died that morning, so we felt obligated to go visit him at the beach. He was just trying to forget for a little while. Then when we got back Rusty's little ones were done with the heat, so they wanted to go swimming, then we had to go grab dinner, and by then it was after 11pm. I drove by but couldnt find a parking place, so we came back to the hotel. We were beat. Then Sunday we headed out early because our dogsitters had Father's Day plans.

All in all it was a hectic weekend. I would have prefered to hang out with you guys. Relaxing on the docks is more my pace. I hate running like that. Oh well, next time we will make more time

We did find out that we live about 10 minutes from Fireman. LOL. Maybe we will meet up at Swamphouse sometime. We boat up there frequently.

My friend, I live exactly 30 seconds from Swamphouse. You make the call when and where and I'll be there.

VH, thank you for all the kind words. I truly enjoyed meeting you and your family as well as Sasto and Kimi, nlain, and all the others. I wished the others were able to be there as well (NSBCraig...you know who you are...:)). I hope we can do this again in September, especially as I have 2 rods & a net to return to Sasto! Sounds like a good enough reason for the drive to me.

PM me your address and the CD will be on the way. Thanks again to everyone for making the effort.

Fireman, Funny you mention two rods and a net...

Sasto, when you picked up your fishing gear from my boat, you left the rod rigged with the treble hook jig in the port side pocket. I'll bring it in September.:)

Fireman... the kind words you speak of, simply the facts as I perceive them. My family agrees with every word.

Nlain, my family and I are really glad you said you'd try to make it to Nettle's Island in September. We're kinda counting on a reunion of our "reunion"!!!;)

Mnypitboat, I hope you join us. You didn't have enough time with us in St Augustine; and I can say with confidence that we all wished you had. It was more than a pleasure meeting you and your family. Thank you again for the ride to the boat ramp. I'll be in touch with you and nlain when I'm ready to head down the ACF to appalachacola bay. Maybe we'll all float there and back together.

Tomorrow, We'll be putting the boat in at one of the many boat ramps here and doing some fishing, some tubing, and then beaching for a while before starting it all again.:D VH Jr and VH Jr jr, as sasto so eloquently called my two sons, will be getting in plenty of "driving time" on the boat tomorrow. VH Jr jr is somewhat of an expert with larger craft than mine, thanks to Fireman. I just hope he can handle a "small craft" now. I'll probably post some pics tomorrow. If not, definitely when I get home.

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

It's now 0505hrs. Got home about an hour and a half ago. Trip home uneventful and safe. The final day at St Augustine was a blast!!! Wish everyone had been with us for the extra time. Monday and the first half of Tuesday were spent taking in the sights and doing tours for my wife's reviews. My wifes "Media Package" gave us access to just about every attraction St Augustine has to offer, both City and Privately owned. The latter half of Tuesday we spent on the beach which was only one house away from ours (less than 50'). We spent yesterday on the boat and on the beach. We took the boat into a protected "cove" between Anastasia Island State Park and the mainland of the island. From there, we headed back toward St Augustine and skirted around the St Augustine beaches and the beach on Anastasia Iland. We had the good fortune of seeing a fairly young sea turtle. It was less than two feet long from the front of the shell to the back. I pointed it out to my wife and children, but only my wife got to see it; and I got too close. It disappeared below the surface before my wife could get a picture.

Well, it's 0530 now and I've got to get some sleep. More to follow later... with pictures!!!:D
