Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Hi everyone,

New to the forum, new to the world of aluminum boats (have had a couple classic Glastron bow riders).

I got this beauty from a super sweet couple a couple towns over.. she's 12' long, beam of 50" or so and a 71 Evinrude Fisherman 6hp on the back.

I've been trying to locate more information about what year the boat is (they said 1959, but it really looks to be in too good condition for that), as I would like to get all the oxidation and paint off the hull so I can cherry it out. Otherwise, I'm just going to paint it black and put a big skull and crossbones on either side of her.. lol

Both the nameplates are in bad shape.. I would love to replace those.. where can I find some?

-Jon

Well, she ain't going to break any speed records, but I finally got her into the water today... chugged around for about an hour then brought her home.

What a great little boat.. she handled the *big* lake fine, so ponds and smaller lakes she'll be perfect. :)

I have a 1979 16' Mr Musky with a 1979 Evinrude 55, I got a great deal on the boat, the new trailer is worth twice what I paid for the whole package.
The boat ran good when I got it but it wasnt very pretty so i'm in the process of completly redoing everything on the boat. Here is a picture of what it looked like when I got it and some pictures of what it looks like so far.

Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Odly enough in my 20+ years of buying, selling and collecting (some 20+) aluminum boats, I never owned a single Mirrocraft. ( I've owned just about everything but!) Always had a sweet spot for a 14' Deep fisherman but never hit a deal just right. That changed this winter when I decided I wanted to "step up" to right-sized 16'er. Found a smoking deal on a new 1615 Outfitter. This boat was designed just the way I like my fishing boats. Wide open floor plan, uncluttered vinyl interior, big enough to handle some bigger water but light enough to get into those skinny places. Won't need a big engine to run it or a oversized truck to pull it either. Here are pics from 3/09 delivery day while she's waiting for final rigging. That's a 30 hp Nissan 4 stroke on there. It'll do 30+ with that engine.

Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Ive got a question about my mirrocraft. Ive owned the boat with my brother for about a year. Its a 17'. Im not sure what model because the last owner took all of the tags off except the serial#, and I cant find anywhere to get info from that. My question is this, I have a 70hp johnson on her now. But Ive got an suzuki 115 that I want to put on. Will this exeed the max hp rating for the boat? The serial # is mrr1089m83j. any info would be helpfull

Thanks

Josh

Call Mirrocraft, they can tell you bases on your serial #.
Sounds like allot of motor to me though.

Gooday Mates...

Picked up this '73 14 footer with a galvanized Gator and a '92 30 hp evinrude and an '84 8hp Johnson kicker. Motors are MINT and the hull is also mint...

The transom was reinforced with aircraft aluminum and I am looking to install a floor for stability so wifey will sail with me.

Here are some pictures of my restored 1956 runabout. First year Mirro made boats. Had to have the MirroCraft decal custom made, never could find the plastic ones.

I recently scored this beautiful 1972, 16 ft Mirrocraft, closed bow runabout with a '72 50 hp Johnson. I think that the boat is a "Troll and Ski" but not sure. Anyone know? I have not found one like it on the internet anywhere.

No pictures yet, but just picked up a 69' 18ft Mirrocraft with a center console and 65hp rude. Very rough shape right now, but with the help of this site, the restoration has begun. Don't know the model but the tag says max hp is 125 with a 2565LB limit for persons gear and motor.

I recently purchased a '61 MirroCraft 12'er. It is in great condition. I am going to restore the wooden seats, and replace the transom wood. It has the original paint, and Mastercraft trailer, with cast wheels, it came with new. I plan to run a vintage Johnson on it when it's ready.

Hi, guys. Here is my 1971 Ski-N-Troll 14'. My grandafther was the original owner. Original 1972 Johnson 25. Shown here successfully re-launched at Manchaug Pond after 8 or 9 years in drydock.

Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Hi folks,

First of all... Great Site!
Glad I came across it before I started my project.

I purchased an aluminium boat w/motor a couple of weeks ago. This is the first boat that I've ever owned.
No trailer, but I have quite a bit of work to do before I'll need that.
So I'll keep looking for a good deal.

It's a 14' MirroCraft with a 20hp Johnson. I thought it was a great deal for $450.00

The boat has no tags on the transom to identify it.
Please let me know if there's somewhere else that I need to look on this boat to find them.
It doesn't leak, it was actually full of water when I bought it. Visually it's very rough, but the hull is solid.
The transom is solid but looks like it was hacked down, and some stainless put on top.
Steering is seized and cables are rotted.
The motor runs great. It is a 1967 based on the model and serial numbers.

Here's my dilemma:

After seeing all the great bass boat conversions, my plan was to gut the boat.
Remove the bow cover, install some flooring, casting deck at the bow, some seats, storage, livewell, etc.
Remove the cable and pulley steering and just use the tiller controls from the stern.

But after also seeing all the great restores of some vintage boats, I'm wondering if I should go in that direction instead.

Also, I'm attaching some pics of the boat in the condition that I'm starting from.

Any help to identify this boat's model and specs would help in my project.
All advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

SW

Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Within the last couple of weeks I ran accross this Mirrocraft boat that I could not turn down. The previous owners registration shows it as a 1959 and 15 feet long. It has a Johnson 35hp Super Seahorse motor on it. I have the cover for the motor but have it off in the picture. There were alot of wasp nests and rats nests in the lower unit to clean out.

Can anyone tell me where I would find an ID plate for serial #, model #, etc. I would love to know more about this boat. I will post better pictures later.

Thanks!!

Re: Show yer Mirrocraft..............or just tell about it

Hi everyone- really glad to have found this site. I was given this boat and I have no idea the year. I think it's a late 1960's with a 1979 merc 40 on it. I'm going through the entire engine now, and am at the beginning of my restoration process. The boat measures 15 feet and boy is it OLD! I would like to know what the best way to paint the top deck and hull are. I don't have access to a sprayer so I'll be rolling on some aluminum boat paint the same color and want to know what others have done. I sand blasted the trailer already and painted it. The hull is completely aluminum and I'm pretty sure there was never any floor in it. The hardware screams 1960's. What kind of primer and paint? I don't want to put a ton into it as I'm just going to troll up here in NH with it.

Any other things you can suggest are welcome.

Thanks!
