I actually called them today to ask about something else and also asked about their inventory and the guy I spoke to said they were 'loaded with trailers'....I think his name was Chris....
Yup, that's the guy . . .
I have a trailer on order from a guy in CT. If that falls through, I'll check with Riverhead again. I asked what they have in stock for a 33' foot boat and got "yes" as an answer.

Ted what kind of truck are you using to pull this?
Also remember if trailering off Long Island all of the Parkways are off limits to trailers:
Grand Central/Northern State Parkway
Southern State Parkway
Meadowbrook Parkway
You can trailer on the Long Island Expressway I-495, Hempstead Turnpike Rte 24, Northern Boulevard/Jericho Turnpike Rte 25
Going toward the bridges Clearview Expressway is ok for trailers Cross Island expressway is not. After that New England Thruway which I’m sure you’re familiar with.
Other idea is to go east and take either the Port Jeff/Bridgeport Ferry or the Orient/New London Ferry. I have seen pretty big trailers on both…
Personally having done it both ways and given you’re heading back to Cape Cod the ferry would be less stressful you just have to stick to their schedule & get there on time.

Those of us on Long Island really wish that for one time Robert Moses got his way and the bridge across LI Sound would have been built. It would have connected with Route 135 (Seaford/Oyster Bay Expressway) and gone across to Ct. Thereby allowing us to avoid traffic in western Nassau, Queens, the Bronx etc. But it is what it is.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The Trailer on OSO is a monster ( for a 40 footer) not anything I can consider.

I'm planning on an F250 or F-350 truck to pull the boat/trailer. I put it on uShip to see what I get for bites. Getting off LI it looks like I-495 and then to one of the bridges (???) I know the Throg's Neck bridge has got some construction.

Also still considering taking the boat via water to its home port and dealing with the haulout there. ANYBODY WANT TO GO FOR A LATE SEASON BOAT RIDE ??? :D 🤪

Trust me the LIE to the Clearview to Throgs Neck to I95 North will be a trial all the way back to Cape Cod. Strongly consider LIE east to exit 70, to Sound Ave follow it to the end to the Orient Point Ferry. This will bring you to I 95 in New London Ct; much nicer!

I'm thinking to have a boat hauler take it to deal with the driving logistics.

It is starting to sound easier to just take the boat via the water up LI Sound into Buzzards Bay. It is about 180 miles . . . probably could do it in 7 hours in decent conditions.

Ted I know you’re familiar with ocean conditions being from Cape Cod however I know LI Sound can get quite dicey depending upon the winds and tides. If you do decide to go that way check out U of CT’s my sound website they have weather buoys across LI Sound giving real time wind and wave reports. My advice for driving comes from 10 years of going to Camp Yawgoog (Rockville RI) from LI with my son 10 times when he was in Boy Scouts. One time we waited too long and did not get ferry reservations. Had to drive all the way around. Miserable experience! Ferry much better!

That's right - you hail from around these parts. Appreciated. (y) Stay tuned - not sure what means I will actually use to transport the boat.

Quick Update . . .

The Admiral had an idea . . . sell one of our cars and buy a fairly used truck to haul the boat. :unsure: :D 🤪 :cool: OK . . .

I sold our 2009 Toyota in 2 hrs on FB, and am now in search of an F-350 Diesel. So, it looks like I'll be towing the boat myself, if the trailer comes through.

Meanwhile - I got some light reading material since these new-fangled engines are a bit busy with all kinds of hoses and sensors.

Great! I told my brother to buy a shop manual for his 2020 Mercruiser 4.5 if he wants me to winterize it.

Yes - a manual would be a good thing. The cooling flow on these things is complicated.

Yes, I wired the $$$ on Friday, so the focus now is to get the boat transported.

I have bids of $3K for a complete hauling service and $2K for a tow-away service. This would be about 250 miles for hauling, which seems pricey @ $8-12 per mile.

So, I am now hopeful that the trailer arrives soon and I can get a decent truck for hauling.

I have been focusing on diesel trucks, but not sure if I should even consider a gas engine truck, since the towing ratings are a bit lower. :unsure:

I'll only need to tow 250 miles once and thereafter it would be 2-3 mile towing.

If you are looking for a newer truck, the Ford 7.3L gas pretty much does everything that a 6.7L can. With DEF and the emissions systems, Diesel engines are fading away. The 6.2L would be limited in it's ability but would still do it. GM and RAM really don't have any decent gas options.

If the haul doesn't have a lot of long hills the gas won't be an issue. If you want a truck just to have around that will last with little maintenance, find a old Dodge with the 5.9 diesel. 500K miles is nothing to one of those.

Ted what’s the approximate weight of the trailer & boat?
as far as hills, I’m familiar with the route either using the ferry off Long Island to New London Ct. No real hills to speak of there and IMHO a much easier to not having to deal with the heavy traffic resulting from having to drive through Queens, the Bronx and the inevitable back ups all along I95 from the Ct state line to New London. Here you will be starting and stopping often due to the relentless heavy traffic. If you’re not familiar with the NYC metro area you really can’t imagine how bad this can be. The ferry route is much much easier on the tow vehicle. East of New London Ct I’m not familiar with the route. I’m not a fan of modern diesel trucks due to the very high cost of repairs and added headaches of emissions equipment especially since you’re going to have this one long tow then very short ones after that. Personally if it meets the weight requirement I’d consider a late model Ram 2500 with the 6.4 liter Hemi and 8 speed auto trans, especially if you take the far easier tow off Long Island using the ferry.
