I have been reading about doing different types of joints. Scarf joint has been the popular way of attaching new stringer wood to old. Everything that I am reading about doing joint on my stringers say when placing the joints together glue them with epoxy.

My question is can I use thicken ploy to glue the joints?
Can I use a double lap joint (B)?

If it were me, I'd use epoxy but I'd also run some mechanical fasteners through all three boards, as well. I'd use either screws (going in from both sides) or a through-bolt. That will be substantially stronger than epoxy alone.

demarko210, many many iboaters have used polyester resin to make their stringers, transoms and floor glue up's without any problems what so ever. And you can add in some Cabosil (fumed Silica) to thicken the poly to the consistency you like or need as well. So if you want to use polyester, go for it. It will work without any problems.

I suggest you read a few boat refurbishings on these forums to see what's involved before doing anything as far as replacing stringers and such. So many great ideas and options to see and read about. JMHO
