I might get in on some of that action!

I bet with paint that hard you could skip your boat across a cow pasture and it wouldnt scratch it.

Re: Rustoleum Questions

Im glade I read over this. I am currently waiting the 30 minutes after adding the hardner to start painting! I am painting a trailer though, not fiberglass.

I primed with the single stage duplicolor primer from Autozone. I will never use this stuff again. Should have just spent the little bit more on Nason. Hopefully the TS paint and hardner are better.

Bondo you just made up my mind on paint. I haven't had a lot of luck with rustoleum , always thought it too soft.and slow to harden. Was going to go back to easy poxy, as I like the finish, but I've never bout it in the last 30 or so years. Think I'll try this magic stuff in the rustoleum this time.

Now you would just need to use the hardener on the paint and not with the primer right? Yes I am a long way from painting but gathering info as much as I can.

Roll N Roll? I thought it was roll n tip. If you have some good advice I am all ears my friend. Will do anything that will help make things look better.

As for the HVLP, well I have never done that for one. For another I really don't have a place other than my driveway to shoot it. And then here is the kicker, I bought 2 HF HVLP guns for really cheap and now am wondering what I am going to do with them now. I don't think that I can just spray it out in my driveway without getting over spray on the house or the neighbors house or worse yet my vehicles.

So yea, any advice either way or both ways would be way cool Wood.

I rolled and rolled mine. You roll the paint on and then just keep rolling but faster and lighter. It knocks the bubbles down but is moving too fast to pick and new ones up.

Did you use a special roller or any special size doing that Ez? Cause I am really thinking that I am not going to shoot this thing after all.

Thanks,
Kelly

Re: Rustoleum Questions

KellyC, I used a 4" foam roller and I had a high quality 4" paint brush that I used to "knock down" any drips, bubbles or runs. I also mixed my paint with about 30% mineral spirits. This makes the paint level better, giving you a smooth finish. I primed my entire boat with primer, then wet sanded until smooth. When I painted, the temp was about 70 degrees. I really recommend this paint method. If you take your time and do it right, you'll be amazed at the outcome.

Re: Rustoleum Questions

Ok, so I was noticing that you can thin rusto. But was wondering if you thin it will the thinning affect the the majic hardener if you are using that as well? Yes some more stupid questions but I have to learn somewhere and you are the best bunch of guys to learn from.
Thanks again

I think that is a great question! I plan to thin and spray so I am also wondering if thinning would effect the Majic? I suspect not though.

Re: Rustoleum Questions

You should be fine as long as you thin to the manufacturer's specs using the recommended thinner and don't exceed the maximum amount.

Re: Rustoleum Questions

I knew you guys would come through with good answers just as always.

So here comes another stupid question that I thought I knew but really don't. What primer should be used with the rusto? I have seen some of their primer and it seems that it is a kind of latex or something and I am assuming that it would not be good to use on the boat. And then maybe I was looking at the wrong stuff as well, not sure.

Thanks again guys
