Not sure which prop you are running, but I used to swap out the std 3-blades with the 4-blades they used to have on the 35 HP late 90's. Really drops consumption and great performance. Perhaps a 12" PN 0176424 might be perfect.

Try for the test to put a 1" piece of wood on top of the transom, and tilt the engine out at least 1 hole.
