And pack the voids well with the epoxy/sawdust mix. Just in case any bolts or motor clamps are in the area. Also insurance in case water gets in the area. Overall, you should be OK.

Are you around Bristol, tn? We had flurries the other night and it was heavier to the north. The temps have sure been a yo-yo lately.

I'm in Elizabethton. Bristol is about 15 minutes from my house. I work over there all the time.

The temps have been weird. We keep the beagle in the garage when the temps get much below 40. He's almost becoming an inside dog he's spent so much time in the garage this winter. He barks for a good 20 minutes when we put him outside when it's warm enough.

I have a sister in Johnson City up in you neck of the woods. I'm tired of winter, but finally next week is warming up.

The weather man is calling for snow on Sunday and then it's supposed to be 63 on Monday. We are so ready for the weather to stay warm. The Admiral and I are also ready to get the Starcraft finished so we can get some good fishing in.

Yes dry now thanks to some roof repair, and heated for working during these cold winter, or spring, or whatever season's days it is.

I used JB Weld to fill small voids on my plywood edges. And I second the vote for rivetsonline.com, they have just about everything you can imagine.

And if you need any stainless steel fasteners, I highly recommend Product Catalog - Bolt Depot .

Thanks for the links JB and Lakelover. Spent last night making up a list of rivets and screws for an order from both sites. I feel like this project should be done already were it not for my lack of unpreparedness. I'm going to have a summary of what I think I did wrong at the end of this thread. Hopefully that will keep someone else from making time wasting mistakes.

Don't worry about being unprepared, I was groping in the dark more often than not. It took me about 2-1/2 years to get mine done. I had to work outside and depend on the weather, that was one reason. But anyway, just enjoy your project!

Heck, I was prepared, tn. I kept enough gas in the truck to get to and back from Home Depot. :D

I got my Rivets from fastenal probably could've got them cheaper online but I was already making a Lowe's and Fastenal is a mile away from Lowe's.

I've been getting all of my Stainless steel screws and bolts at harbor freight in Knoxville I've been buying the big bulk multi packs.

I was at Harbor Freight in Johnson City yesterday and checked out there stainless steel screws. They seem to have a pretty good selection. I need to get an hvlp spray gun and one of their pneumatic riveters. I'm going to wait till the next sale to see if I can get them cheaper. Sig which riveter did you get. They have one that goes to 3/16 and one that goes up to 1/4. I figure if I get the one that does more rivet sizes I'll be better off in the long run. Also which size hvlp spray gun would be better the 20oz or the next size up?

If you were any closer I would give you my Harbor Freight HVLP gun for free (needs a new plastic disposable cup). I got the 3/16" and I have an extra pneumatic riveter I broke the nose piece on if you you think you can repair it come and get them you are about an hour from me.

I just upgraded my HVLP gun to one with multi tips.

Very rarely do I ever mix more than 20 ounces of paint at a time anyways.

What size compressor are you running?

I've got a 20 gallon stand up compressor for the garage, and a pancake style I generally use for my framing work around the house. Time for a road trip I'm thinking! I need to checkout your 16 before she moves onto the lucky buyer.

Well on your road trip just drag the tinny with you and we will use this to paint it with.

13.5 SCFM at 40 psi she don't play games. I've got it rigged with a water seperator, and inline filter as well.

Re: Replacing my 16ft SS Starcrafts Transom

You guys are welcome to drag your tin to my hangar, and use any equipment you want. I painted my 18' with a 20 gallon and it was a horrible experience, spray wait spray wait spray wait, it was a horrible experience I don't care to repeat, actually if you read my thread I burned up my older 20 gallong compressor painting with it. The newer one well it just rocks. Having the extra SCFM helps the paint to atomize much better and lay down flatter as well. I think its the biggest reason why the 16' turned out so much better than the 18'

And honestly if I could do it again I probably would have gone with an 80 gallon, but there was a $350 price difference.

I remember the trials with the old compressor. Didn't you have to fix it first and drain a lot of water out of the tank, just so it would blow up on you?
