Re: Rebuilding Transom and Stringers...

I have put on 2 layers of tabbing using 1708. Is that enough tabbing or should i put one more?

Your good. I'd sand and feather the edges and put on a full Layer of CSM followed by two full layers of 1708 6 to 8" overlap.

I put in one full layer of 1708 that overlapped the tabbing but didnt extend over to the hull, then i put in another full layer of 1708 that extended about 4in and then one more layer that overlaps 6"

Well im moving on to the hull now... Going to start sanding it down and repainting. What would you suggest i do about sanding the boat? Should i just sand down the original paint a little and just spray on a new coat if the old paint isnt too bad? and if i have to sand down to the skin, do i need a different paint or primer?

I always recommend using primer that's compatible with the final finish coat of paint. They work together to promote proper adhesion. Have you given any thought to what paint system you'll be using?

i have not. I was thinking of just sanding down the top layer and putting on a fresh coat...What product do you recommend. This boat will stay in the water for more than 3days some times...

I orderd some tuff stuff primer and cukote shark white bottom paint. Im sanding down to the fiberglass but im having a hard time getting to the bottom... maybe im using a sander thats not strong and fast enough. im using 60 grit. Maybe im not patient enough...

What sander and grit are you using? I'd recommend a minimum of a R/O sander with 4o grit. As mentioned a 4 1/2" grinder with a rubber backup pad and 24 or 36 grit resin coated sanding discs should make short work of it. Make sure and wear a really good respirator and googles when sanding/grinding. Some of this paint dust can be highly toxic.

Well IF, that's what he's wanting to do, I don't think it's gunna happen with that hull style and my next question would be WHY?

the area i fish has lots of flats that sometimes run 1ft to 6in deep and i need to power over them at times. This is why im looking to putt in a tunnel.

Should be a really fun boat to fish out of. You going to use it in the gulf?
