Nothing fits the same way going back in, so it is a slow process.

I am trying to diagnose an issue with the rear 'sunpad' actuator (it is supposed to raise/lower the rear seat assembly, forming a sun bed at the stern). I have isolated the problem to a relay . . . but I cannot find the relay
 🤪

I have a feeling that it is buried somewhere behind the engine room electrical panel. . . probably out of reach.

More pictures from today . . . The bow section is done. Next will be the helm seats, then onto the rear settee.

I'm still fussing with the sunpad actuator/relay.

Boxed cushions work out better if you make the faces about a 1/2" shy of the corner of the foam all the way around. I want to say the same for the sides, but it has been years since I have done zippered box cushions.
I guess the thing to remember is that the corner of the foam will never fill out the corner of the cushion. It will round off, so you have to build to that expectation.

Update . . .

Work (what I do for a living) has been crazy the past few weeks, so not much time (or energy) after hours to work on the boat.

This weekend, I should be able to get the remaining seats installed. The helm seats and the rear seat/sunpad each have some issues electrically or mechanically.

The helm seats (captain and side chair) use a Garelick 'EEZ-in' slide device to adjust the position of the seat. The side chair seat also swivels to face either forward, sideways, or backwards as desired.

Anyway, the slide mechanism is of a poor design/material choice, because it uses a spring loaded pin to lock the slide in position. The lever to release the pin is aluminum and subject to bending. After some usage, the lever has bent enough that it will no longer fully retract the pin, and the slide is stuck in a single position.

The slides are about $135 each (need 2 of them, one for each seat) and likely to fail again for the same reason. So, my poor man's fix was to use a cut-off wheel and take about 3mm (1/8") off the pin, which allowed the 'shortened' pin to fully retract and release the slide mechanism. A bit of a compromise, but there seems to be enough pin left to hold the slide in place.

The rear seat/sunpad has a linear actuator that raises/lowers the seat. The actuator currently runs only in one direction, the other direction is 'dead'. When I bought the boat, it was believed that the actuator had failed. But it does work in both directions when powering it directly. So, my attention has turned to the electrical portion. There is a switch at the helm and a set of relays down below. The switch tested out OK, so my attention is now focused on the relays, which appear to be like the automotive type that you find in a car's electrical box.

After much digging, I found the relays . . .

Hella (Hellish) 4RD-931-680-01 . . . I believe they are 40 amp . Anyway, I'm not sure how I could test them, but I ordered 2 more to replace these.

Now one would think that a relay may not be entirely necessary, given that a switch at the helm could probably do the same polarity reversing thing

If the relays fail (again) if may be re-wiring time . . .

So, the game plan for the weekend is to get all the remaining seats installed and then (hopefully) when the relays arrive I will have a working sunpad. We shall see . . .

You can swap the relays and see if it now runs in the other direction. Can't reverse the polarity on a DC motor with a single SPDT relay.

I was thinking DPDT . . . maybe, but I will swap the relays to get the sunbed to expand/lower.

More seat installation today . . .

The rear sunbed/seat is proving to be a challenge. At the outset of the project I put the 3 piano hinges in a safe place . . . of course it took me an hour to find them.

Here are the hinges going in. . .

The backrests for the sunpad are in . I had to do a little guessing as to where the screw holes were for the piano hinges, but once I found 1 they all went in a row.

I do need to get the actuator working, because I need the sunbed expanded in order to get the seat bases installed. I may swap the relays as @nola mike suggested.

And that's a generic relay, you can grab any fuel pump relay from your FLAPS if you don't want to wait

'FLAPS' ??? I have not found the lever for the flaps . . . nor the landing gear. :ROFLMAO:
"Friendly Local Auto Parts Store"

and yes, most of the marine seat hardware out there is built kind of cheesy / cheap

Yes, I assumes that the FLAPS was the auto parts store, except the 'friendly' one is closed Sundays 🤪

Just the GLAPS is open today.

Anyway, I did switch the relays and was able to lay down the sunbed, which was needed to install the 4 base pieces. Then switched the relays back to raise the sunbed back into a seat.

The Seats Are Done . . .

I made a few tweaks on the bow seating. So all is good.

I spent some time this AM studying up on 'ISO Mini' relay switches and the various formats, pin designations, etc. The relays on this boat mostly seem to be ISO Mini, 5 pin, SPDT, Type B, changeover.

Now onto the regular maintenance stuff, in preparation for launching (someday) . . .
🤪

Wow! I'm looking forward to doing "fun" cosmetic and stereo stuff again someday. The mechanical condition of my boat always is directly proportional to how clean it is.

BTW, you can substitute "friendly" with any four letter F word of your choice, depending on the competence of the counter help there...

The relays arrived (y) and I'm taking Friday & Monday off to get a good solid 4 days of boat work done.

I think I need to make a tweak or 2 on the aft seat/sunbed. The seat does not do up all the way as flush with the port settee as it should. There is a stop switch under the mechanism that proably need to move about 1/2" . . .

Even though this boat was marina maintained, it still had (and has) its fair share of issues, which are the next up on the hit list. So, I'll try not to dirty up the new vinyl seating with all the wrench turning that is ahead of me.
