I have been considering painting the lower side wall aluminum in the bow area. All the exposed aluminum that does not get covered with the wood floor. All the newer welded boats go this route. Seems to be a lot cheaper and less maintenance. Anyone else decide to do that?

I think I would, makes it look nice without all the head ache. Cool looking boat though.

So this SC just came up on CL today. Not sure I need a 3rd boat or even another project.

I painted the bow area of my Chief and called it good.

Birdsong, nice left field reference. With motor & trailer its still worth 18. Not a screaming deal which means he does now what it's worth but still not much more than most SCers have paid for a start. Offer a thou and don't budge. That's a good deal and if not... Oh well, next.

I was just over $1000 buying my Islander and the parts not needed I sold off of it already paid for half of it. So at $18 he is way to high. We all know the condition of it once you start to really look at it. Full reno I expect! It's also listed as a 16' and I don't think its going anywhere. Trailer is junk, motor is an antique. Who is buying a boat to use this time of year.

Not much progress the last month or so. I managed to get almost all the glue off the walkway into the cuddy. Took forever! No room to work in my shop, I had to stuff a lot of things in there due to the crazy winter we had. 2 ft + of snow, driveway skating rink, -10 some days. Too cold to do anything. I might get some energy now that the weather is warmer and I got all the excess junk out of the shop.

Yeah the cold weather can make boatwork no fun at all. My shop gets kind of messy during the winter months too. Seems like the Admiral wants to pile up boxes and her projects as well as taking up one bay with her car during bad weather, but Happy Wife Happy Life.

Took me a couple hours to get it loaded on my flatdeck. Old glassers get heavy! A little scary driving home.

Looks like I have also found my gas tank! Nice poly tank that really needs some cleaning.

Spent a couple hours rigging the very rusted out trailer that did not have a tongue on it. Used treated 2 x 4 hammered into the rusty tube, bolted on a coupler to allow the trailer to be moved around. Just don't take it on the road.
Engine turns over nice, all fluids look fairly clean. Last owner said it was winterized before it was parked. Looks to be true.
Leg tilt/trim goes down nice, but does not go back up, no click or anything. I expect it is either the rusty connections, wires unplugged, or a bad solenoid.

Since I have not worked on too many Mercs other than basic maintenance of the newer ones, there are many questions??

Like what is the piece located above the engine on the transom? Has 2 wire leads coming off of it that are not hooked up, a Black and a green with a stripe in it. I tried connecting it to 2 matching wires with the same connectors that run in the engine harness, but that created smoke from the wire...not good.

I am just guessing, I have never worked on an io, but seeing the fluid lines I'd guess it was a trim motor. Nice grab on the free donor boat.

Well from the information I can find on it, which is not much after spending hours looking is that it is a linear style trim limiter. Still not 100% sure. Might be why the up trim does not work because the wire are not hooked to anything.

I might get some time later today or tomorrow to work on it. I would like to get the engine running and leg working before I pull it from the boat.

Yeah that gizmo is the old style trim limit before the pucks on the sides of the OD.
