Some folks just refuse to read instructions or think it will never happen to them. Years back a guy I knew, wanted to test run a small outboard, so he squirted some dish detergent into the water pickup as soon as the motor started....he stated that would lube the pump so it did not get harmed during the run !

Had a similar thing happen around her some years back. Drunk driver running at high speed at night into a no wake zone and crashed into multiple docks and other boats. Unfortunately two were killed and numerous injuries.

i've been on those ferries many times, huge. gotta be really drunk to almost hit one.
Kinda like the driver that did not see the hugh train in front of him ! We live in an active RR area. A few times a week, people run unto these giant locomotives, claiming they didn't see them.......

I have two similar stories.
1. A guy had a heart attack (I think that was it) while out boating while the throttle was wide open. He rammed another boat side on, his bow went over the side and hit the other boater. Neither survived.

2. Last winter, during one of the big snow storms, a local marina or boat shop owner was out plowing snow around town. He worked for ~24 hours straight, pushing himself way too hard. He passed out, and had a seizure while driving. The truck went onto a golf course and right into a tree. Luckily, he survived, but the little s*** in the office who took a video and posted to facebook calling him a drunk had to make a public apology and was fired.

so fake. Back in the 80s mie always started on the second pull.

Gee… reminded me of going down Siskiwit lake as a pre-teen. Going fishing and the little five horse outboard singing along. I happened to look back and the guy dow the lake was taking off, heading right for me! He was a bit of a distance away but if I didn’t look he would have got me. Hard to port! Starting paying more attention after that!
