Re: Radar Camera !!!

This of course, is nothing new. It has been going-on since the inception of the first police force....This "cat-n-mouse" between law enforcement and the law-breakers, by the nerds and technoboys who would profit from both sides.

Julius Ceasar sends a garison of law enforcers?
"Ok, y'all. Go down to the town square, and hire ten people, one for each road into town. Make sure they can run real fast, and long. Station them as lookouts".

The invention of the "radar speed Gun" led to the invention of the "radar detector"....By the same group of technogeeks.
Next, you will see a "radar-camera detector" that clips to you visor, right allongside the radar detector and CB radio.

This will probably go on,ad infinitum.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

To me anything that can save lives from traffic accidents is worth it. The auto manufactures keep making cars idiot proof, but we keep coming up with better idiots. Sort of like 12 footers technogeeks outwitting the radar stuff.

Country wide each month, we loose more lives in vehicle accidents than what happened on 9/ll. It is sad to think that nearly all these accidents were preventable by their operator at the wheel.

So yes I am for better enforcement of the traffic laws. The salarey for a camera is less than an officer, and the camera will catch more since it never sleeps.

If your a law abiding citizen, :) then why would you object to these cameras? After all they only take your picture when you are in the wrong, :( such as breaking the law?

With technology being so advanced, I think it would be possible to track vehicles in a pursuit without having to endager the public with a pack of cruisers chasing a suspect. Just have to see what the future brings.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

Hey them officers are pretty good at throwing them spike strips, how about they throw a magnetic homing device. That way all they have to do is click on it an WAlaaa!!!, they can go right to where the car is.

SS, the guys that invented Radar are the same guys that invented the Radar detector so they were not outwitting it, they were making more money from it.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

A number of Calipornia cities use flash cameras to photograph vehicles going thru red lights.
Now some of the cities who "used" this method to cite drivers and increase their revenue, have or are going to refund the collected fine money.

It seems the speed camera company and some the police departments conspired to reduce the "amber" or caution light "on time" at intersections, by 1/2 to a full second.

Some fellow who received a "cite by mail", went to the location his violation was said to have to occured. He timed the amber light with a stop watch and found the "on" time had been shortened. He video taped the lights thru a number of cycles and took the evidence to court.

The fellow won his case. Then the word got out and spread, causing a number of cities who also participated in this devious activity to refund the fine money to the former violators, now called victim's. :D

Naturally the "amber time" was restored to it's normal cycle time.

If you get one of these red light "photo" tickets and you think the amber time was altered, I would do what the guy who won in court did.

This was definatly a revenue enhancement for the cities, that went bad.

...Bob in Calif...

Re: Radar Camera !!!

Red Light Cameras = Yes
Radar Speed Cameras = No

We have Red Light Cameras and they work. I'm glad we have them as it has reduced accidents here in BC. Our Gov. has at least been smart about it and only put them where there are a large number of accidents caused by 'Red-light jumpers'.

As for radar speed cameras we use to have them but our current gov. banned the use of them as soon as they took office. They are nothing but a cash-cow tax! Our prev. gov. was putting them everywhere to collect $$$ - I.E. 'the middle of no where' or where there were speed zone changes to catch those who didn't slow down fast enough. Nothing to do with reducing accidents and saving lives. Just collecting a tax! Even the police said they were a waste of time because they were never used as a way to reduce accidents.

But in the end after they were banned they had one good effect. The gov. reviewed the areas where they had been used and actually increased the speed limit in some areas because the drivers were right and the gov. was wrong.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

Here in Michigan where I live it seems that a red light is something to be ignored. When the light turns green you, for your safetys sake, must wait, look both ways before proceeding through the green light. I have seen as many as 5 vehicles run through a red light as I am waiting to proceed through a green lighted intersection. There are many times when I wish I was an unmarked police car because I could hit my monthly quota every day just by parking near and observing intersections. I am not sure how big a problem it is in other states but it definitely sure is here so I for one would be for red light cameras. I saw a program on one of the cable channels just a week or so ago where they were testing such cameras and the guy on the program ran the red light 50 times at various speeds and he was caught on camera each time. Some will say it is to much "big brother" and while that may be a valid statement I think that the saving of lives is more important.

Some people are just in to much of a hurry I guess.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

The interesting part about shortening the amber times was the reason for it.

The camera company is intended to be paid by recieving the lion's share of the fines. However, they also set a minimum fee per camera. The problem was that the cameras were so effective in convincing people not to run red lights that revenues dropped to where the local governing body was going to have to go into its pocket. Would have been interesting to see how much they would have shortened them if they hadn't gotten caught.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

Since we're on the subject... I invented a meathod of absolutely and safely stopping high speed persuits, but nobody seemed interested. I guess this is due to the projected cost of instalation per vehicle, (16buks average) and the cost of fitting-out patrol cars with the triggering device (how much does a TV remote control cost?)...After all, it's as simple as that..Using coded IR signals, just like a TV remote, a persuer can "shoot" the persuee's vehicle with a grill-mounted, or hand-held throttle disabling gun.
The gun triggers a solenoid on the carb linkage that effectively disconnects the gas peddal. This allows full control of the pursuee's ride, but no throttle control---or idle.
But the NTSB seemed uninterested, as were FTSC.
And let's face it; those wild pursuit videos are very entertaining, aren't they?

Re: Radar Camera !!!

Well, I over-simplified my definition of the device, of course. I used coding, and the codes would be as different for each car, as thier ignition keys.
But have you heard of "Onstar"? They use sattelite RF links I think. But it can do the same thing.
It's also totally capable of performing this funtion with the instalation of a sloenoid pin at the throttle, and an added channel to the gizmo. It's precisely the same electronic schematicly as the door unlocking feature they use currently. But all that aside, the interest is not there for such a device . No thrills in no blood, I reckon.

Re: Radar Camera !!!

The city of Scottsdale has been using these radar cameras to issue speeding tickets for several years. They have minivans with all the equipment inside and they park them in different places, so you never know where you need to be careful. The cameras take a picture of the driver and a picture of the license plate. It'll scare the bejezzus out of you at night when those flashes go off.

:) It's not about doing anything wrong!!!
It's about "Big Brother" watching over you!!!
It's government watching over it's flock!!!

And I feel that they are not doing this to protect us from ourselfs!!!!!

It's being done to close the gap on lost revenues to city and state coffers.

If they were doing it to protect us they would give you a ticket if you just went 5 miles per hour over the speed limit
It's a known fact here in Mass. that if highway speed limit is 55 you won't get a ticket unless you do over 70 they want to hit you with the big fee!!!! It's not a safety issue, it's a money issue!!!!!

Bring it on. I don't do anything illegal at my house either.

The one's that don't like radar is the one's that speed.

The one's that don't like these cameras are the one's that run red lights and endanger my safety along with my families safety.

Again, if you do nothing wrong, don't worry about it.

I don't. :)
