Nice job on getting the dog house out. Cutting everything out cleanly like you have sure will make putting her back together so much easier.

Break time here. I got the starboard shelf thing cut off. I went ahead and cut most of it off, I'm not sure I am going to redo it that way. I don't like how the shelf collects dirt (and I'm sure water). I did take measurements, but both sides were different, I'm not sure there was anything scientific about the way it was installed. I also finished cutting the tabbing on the back of the foot board, great fun, blowing fiberglass dust in a confined space, yeah! I have a feeling redoing some of this tabbing is going to be great fun!

I got the toe board out, that was more of a job than I thought. It looks like the toe board was cut to match the contour of the hull, and extended below deck. Fortunately it was rotten at the floor line, so with a little tugging it broke off. I must say they tabbed the hell out of this thing, everything has been a chore to cut out.

Part of the front deck is rotten and some of it is pretty solid. I was hoping for all rotten, its much easier to remove mulch! I found one of the holes through the deck where they poured the foam. If you look closely you can see the "foam plug" that cam up with the fiberglass layer I pulled off.

I'm guessing its going to take t least a day to get the deck up.....yeah! Well almost done with the hard part, get up the deck and a little grinding, down hill after that!

I envy how clean you keep your work area while you work. I have tried and come to the conclusion I am a slob. Nice work

By the way, I haven seen a lot of cloth in this boat. I'm guessing they hand laid everything? I haven't seen anything that would make me think a chopper gun was used....even the side pocket trays were laid up in cloth.

I don't envy you tabbing the floor under the hot tub. Hope your arms are real long, Arch. That's going to be a chore!

Actually I don't think that will be to bad, the side panels / dash / whatever you call them will be a chore....small space, upside down. Speaking of, I am toying with the idea of upholstering the lower part of them, What do you guys think? There is a nice Power Cat logo embossed on them...maybe make a mold and add that as an overlay to the vinyl? I like the logo, hate the fake leather grain on the lower part of the panels......

Are the panels embossed like the fake leather grain. plastic dashboards in cars and hard as a rock? Soft vinyl, even though it's fake grain too, it is nicer.

An idea to spend your money - Do you think an embroidered Power Cat logo would look good on side panel vinyl? Or on the seats if you reupholster? One of the rebuilds here had the boat logo embroidered and it looked really good.

GA I thought the reason we were working on boats was to spend money.....hmmm wait a minute, we are saving money right??? I laughed today, I thought of the guys I bought the boat from, car guys, got the boat with a 69 Caddy convertible....sweet ride! They both looked at me like I was crazy when I told them there was no way to "patch" the deck....."are your sure, there is only one soft spot"...lol. This isn't a rust spot!

I like the embroidery idea, but there is something about the craftsmanship and the care that they took to emboss the logo that I think needs to be honored. That being said, yes the "embossed leather grain in fiberglass", yuck! I'm sure it sounded like a good idea at the time.......maybe......kind of like the fake vinyl tops on the cars from the 70's, now that was sexy!

You are confused. I'm too cheap, But this is your money! LOL

The embroidery they do today is all computerized and they scan in the image, including colors and stitch away. I have to find the boat, I think i know where it is.

As far as the fake vinyl tops on cars. It wasn't fake. They used real vinyl. :D

Jas' SN build:

Budski's use of wrap vinyl is probably more economical, but still looks great too, but I couldn't find a pix of him applying the vinyl logo to the seat vinyl..

That's it, JB. I just found it and popped over to post the finding. The embroidery cost 12-14 bucks depending on size and the scanning/setup cost was 30-40 bucks. This was in Oct. '13.

Thanks for the idea, I will keep that in mind. Getting the graphics done isn't a problem, one of the people on my staff can do that. I was thinking this morning, I really need to find a donor, once I get the deck stripped down, I can't do a lot untill I find a drive and engine, then mock them up to see where the motor mounts want to go.....Hopefully it will fit in the dog house. I may actual do away with the dog house and run a bench seat across the back. I could pick up some good storage and that just looks a lot cleaner than a seat on either side of the dog house.

Hey Arch - Some more ways to spend your hard earned dough if you haven't run across this site. http://www.powercatboat.com/ But mainly it has a lot of pics of PCs. Apologies if it's been posted already.

Thanks GA, I found that when I first looked at the boat. I need to go back and dig through the site again.

I just had a thought last night.....I got to thinking that I am wanting t put a v configuration engine in a hull that came with an inline. Given its that its a 71, I don't think an engine in a v configuration was available, someone correct me if I am wrong on this. Since the engine mounts are on either side, vs the center one for the 4 banger, I wonder if I'm going to have any clearance issues with the hull / motor mounts? The only way I know to figure that out is to find the donor, pull the motor, then measure and mock up the mounts in the hull. My guess is that I will need to build a jig to do that. Any other thoughts or suggestions? You can see how the engine sat down in the center pod, which is fairly narrow, and slopes up to the deck.

Obiously there is also a relationship between the bottom of the hull and the placement of the drive. I'm guessing the cavitation plate should line up with the bottom of the hull when its down? I've never looked at this before, guess I need to do that. I'm thinking I could probably build an adapter bracket for the motor mounts.....but it sure would be nice if could built them out of wood....glass them in and be done with it. If someone has any thought or dimensional information on the motor mounts let me know. I'm probably over thinking this, but with my luck I will get a 4.3 and figure out it doesn't fit! lol!
