interrupt wire breaks the circuit if i recall correctly yeah it was a black wire but it should go from purple to the interrupt switch then down to positive side of coil on a points system. i know some actually grounded the coil wire temporarily killing coil , but i didn't like that because what if it got stuck and just kept grounding the power wire and started a fire?make sure its a normally closed switch if not and its the normally open then you will have to wire it differently normally open grounds circuit normally closed completes circuit.

I'm going to need to think about that Micky. Might make more sense tomorrow. But this switch is on the ground side of the coil. This one looks like it just breaks the ground between the coil and the battery. I am meeting one of my buddies tomorrow to have him look at the diagram and give me his thoughts. I still think the actual issue is the resister wire. But Maybe the ground switch figures into that. Points are not one of my favorite subjects!

id went electronic :) i do on every boat :) on ground makes sense because it would still break the coil , makes more sense then on positive side but again i have seen both types of switches and that's what i figured out with my electrical background lol

Quick update, I got to studying things and realized the ignition wire is a resistor wire (may have already posted that, not sure). That creates an issue with the Pertronics ignition modal that I put in. I was also having intermittent problems with the slave solenoid. Replaced the Solenoid, solved that issue. The used one of my spare wires and replaced the ignition wire from the key to the coil. Houston we have ignition! I bumped it and it fired up. Turned it off immediately, but it was nice to hear. Time to get ready for the OU game! I will try to run her again tomorrow on the muffs....fingers crossed!

I have to say, any resistor wire is there to help control the amount of current through the primary side of the coil to help control heat and burn open. And that seems odd considering they could have solved that issue when initially winding the coil during manufacturing. But what do I know? Don't answer that!

Lol GM, my knowledge of ignition theory is not very good.....but I just follow the directions! SO FOR THE GOOD NEWS! SHE STARTS AND RUNS GREAT! DRIVE GOES IN AND OUT OF GEAR NICELY! But I still have some issues.

There is water leaking between the thermostat housing and the block. It quit leaking when it started getting warm, I'm assuming it quit leaking when the thermostat opened up. My guess is they put the gasket on dry (hopefully). I'm going to order a gasket, most likely will need one. Hopefully that turns out to be a simple fix and not something major. It got warmer than I would like, but I am guessing that is related to the leak.

The oil pressure guage isn't working, which is a little UN-nerving. But she ran smoothly and no lifter clatter that you would have with low oil pressure. Need to trouble shoot that one. I think all the other gauges worked correctly.

And I notice that the drive was making a clicking noise when we put it back in neutral. I am thinking the shift cables need adjusted, it sounded like the dogs were just barely touching. I'll have to do some reading on that.

Ha arch, If you run it long enough, the clutch dog will wear in and stop clicking....I think!

Eh I think I will try to adjust it GM! But I am sure you are right!

Found the issue, and for once I was dead on!

Ordered the new gasket and the hoses while I am at it. Hopefully get it put together one night this week and try again!

that's why i usually use permatex no 3 on gaskets so they stay where they belong!

It just coughed Mickey didn't really start. should still have a little lube on it from install.

I got the thermostat housing gasket on tonight and put the housing back on the block. I also installed the new hoses. I have the rubber block off cap on order, should be replacing that in a few days. Hopefully tomorrow I will have time to sort out the oil pressure gauge and fiddle with the shift linkage. Then back on the muffs. Rain and cooler weather starts this weekend, but hoping to still get her splashed. Maybe Early Saturday, need to be in front of the TV at 11 central time for the OU-Texas game!

by the way Micky I have a bottle of the Permatex aviation goo.....great stuff! But I like the ultra grey for water / oil type gaskets. There was a little pitting on the castings, so the ultra grey should take care of those. That gasket is so small and stiff, I have no idea how it ended up bent out of place like it was.
