Re: President Bush and the illegal aliens

What some people are failing to realize is...

WE the people make the decisions. NOT the president. He works for US, not the other way around!

Again, he is spitting in the face of all legal immigrants and immigration laws if he allows this. He's also ignoring the MILLIONS of people who don't want the borders opened.

If you believe that "he's making the right decision for us" or "in our best interests"...
Pack your bags and head to communist Russia or China and their dictatorship.

We're not far from that now anyway...

H.

Re: President Bush and the illegal aliens

ebb, I too had a lot of faith in our president and all the intelligent minds that he had around him. I too trusted the president to do the right thing..... But I was young and ended up in Vietnam because of this trust..... I no longer trust any of our politicians to automatically do the right thing and I believe it is up to the people to let the politicians know. I have contacted my congressman and told him that George W. "Davis" Bush has lost my vote!

GW has to know by now that he has rattled our(his base's) cage. IMHO, he needs to do some quick explaining of how he expects all of this to work.
Thanks EBB for the kind word, and I am hoping that is the case, that the Pres has better info and that I would agree with his position were I privy to it.

Re: President Bush and the illegal aliens

points well taken. from the info i've found, it looks like we really messed up back in 1965 with the family reunification provisions. it seems that basically killed restrictions on immigration. nothing seems to be sealing the borders. and maybe nothing will without CA,AZ,TX & FL making it happen.

i didn't find any mention of the proposal giving legal admittance to all immigrants to get here before the window closes on having a job, to avoid getting booted. it still seems if we don't have some kind of ID on these people, we have little chance of nabbing the 8mill already here... i do like the idea of Nat Gd on the border. and i'm all for preventing illegals from getting over the border, just wondering what other idea will work on corralling the ones already here?

i think its great to call up your congressman and give your opinion. i agree with the people making decisions instead of the politicians. if i knew the best solution, i would tell them. if you do, then i hope you tell them. :)

i do not expect them to sit on their hands until they hear from me. they should be making decisions based on their knowledge & ability, that's why they get voted in anyway, right? The President can't do this alone. Congress must do it.

It is still a good idea, but the only Congresspersons who would vote for it are ones that aren't going to run for reelection.

Meanwhile, the same old ineffective approaches continue to be ineffective and the problem gets bigger.

I can't take a position on this one 'cause I just don't feel strongly enough about it one way or the other. Some of 'em are real good people who've been here contributing for a long time. Some are, like you say, nothing but a drain on our resources.

To Homerr's comment about being unfair to legal immigrants, I'm reminded about Jesus's parable about the laborers hired in the evening getting paid a full day's wage...it didn't cheat the ones who worked all day, they still got the deal they signed up for.

What I really wanted to say, though, is that I never thought some a y'all would oppose Mr. Bush's position on anything - I take back all the bad stuff I ever said about ya.

I dont see how this is relevant. None of the laborers broke any laws to obtain the work in the parable.

Legal immigration is great. Illegal immigration is wrong, period, end of sentence. I dont care if some of them are 'nice' people, they are felons by the definition of the law.

Have we not in the past tried the 'pardon' approach? All it did was open the floodgates for this wave, who are waiting for their 'pardon'. The 'pardon' is like spitting in the face of the people who worked to become naturalized citizens or obtain legal visas.

Legal immigration is great.
I think the thing is out of control BUT working with many people from all over the place i can tell you there is nothing about legal immigration that works to smothly.

The best example is the problems my friends that have come here from Haiti LEGALLY have had bring there wifes and children here.

Seeing what they have had to go through to follow the RULES its no wonder so many people dont follow them.

tommays

I like a handful of others, on this site, live in a border state-Arizona. The average American, other than on the border, has NO idea just how much of an issue this is.

Some points:

1. 10 million is a VERY conservative number.

2. This is not simply a Mexican border crosser issue. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHO IS HERE.

3. We have nobody to blame but ourselves. We, as voters, sat idly by while this issue exploded. Plus, many SMALL businesses hire these people. BIG BIZ DOES NOT. The microscope is on them.

4. We have to do SOMETHING with the illegals that are here. We CANNOT round them up and send them home, for several reasons.

-WHO is going to pay for it?
-The public outcry (via the media) would be
"over the top".

Mark my words, we will see more than one repeat of 9/11. And, those perpetrators will have come across our southern border.

Going back to point #4. We must AT LEAST find out WHO is here. "Documenting" and legitimizing are two totally seperate things.

I live here on long island and its just a big and issue here.

Are population has changed to the point were spanish speaking people have become so common that every agency in the state has had to change the way it does things to met the needs of the Spainsh speaking population.

Everything has become spainsh/english.

When i go to the DMV i really feel like i am liveng in a different country at this point.

But my faorite part is when ever someone trys to enforce the laws they become labled RACIST

tommays

When your boat is "taking on water", the first thing you should do is find the source of the leak and plug it. Then worry about bailing out the water already in the boat.
I think that would work here. Build fences, put more armed guards on the boarders and give them the authority to turn people back and use force if necessary. Stop the flow first, then worry about what to do with the ones that are already here. By the way, there are many people that don't give a rats arse about "media outcry"...they cry all the time about everything...I don't care.

Re: President Bush and the illegal aliens

I guess thoes of us ftom Tx, NM ,Arizona, Florida and Cal. Are talked out on the subject. It as a large problem, I dont have the answers but 10 years ago it needed addresing. I am a little disapointed in GW for not doing something when he was Governor. Nobody else has either. Fear of LULAC or loss of spanish speaking vote?? Its a hot potato That is already screwing up our schools and medical care in the affected states.
